50-inch Langston Flexo Folder Gluer; Corpad doesn’t have a specialty folder gluer, but Tavens does in a 74-inch Post; Corpad has a mini, a Jumbo printer slotter and Tavens has a Post Specialty Folder Gluer and an Automatan Laminator that supports a Young Shin flatbed die cutter and Corpad has a Baysek flatbed die cutter but no laminator. “They were the ideal acquisition,” says Schaefer of the Tavens’ investment in growth. “Our machinery went hand in hand and our markets barely overlapped, so in effect, we expanded our collective footprint. We also received a great group of people that fit us well and allowed us to spread the Tavens philosophy, which is, ultimately, taking care of our customers and keeping our promises.” Adding Corpad’s 100,000-square-feet and approxi- mately 50 employees to Tavens’ 50 brings the company’s “under roof” total to approximately 100 employees. products, adds eight employees whose output will allow Tavens to offer those products to its existing customers, as well as expand its markets to include foam buyers. “We’ve solved several problems while increasing our capacity significantly. We’ve also been able to load bal- ance. Our facilities are far enough apart that we’re not roll- ing the plants together but we’re close enough to share business without it being cost prohibitive,” says Schaefer, who points out that the acquisition allows Tavens to ser- vice just about any market in the Midwest. He also reports that “we’re probably at 50-60 percent capacity” with the ability to add additional shifts if needed. “The upside to working with us is that there is virtually no corrugated solu- tion that we can’t provide a customer. We go from mini to jumbo, brown box to label or top sheet or 4-color direct print. The tool bag for our sales reps is unbelievable. They can sell just about anything.” Most of the company’s customers are within a 200-mile radius, but some of its graphics work goes all the way to the West Coast and California because graphics “travels a lot better and farther,” especially on the display side of An Automatan Labeler supports Tavens’ Young Shin die cutter.
