With its newly expanded capacity, Tavens is certain- ly not suffering from a shortage of business. If there is a shortage of anything, it’s in the number of salespeople it employs. “Our sales staff is not big enough and it’s been a been a real challenge hiring new people,” admits Schaefer. “Across our three facilities, we have six sales reps who are employees and several more brokers who are not. We’re always looking for quality sales reps and we welcome their interest and their calls. They’ll do very well here.” What there is not a shortage of at Tavens is creative talent. The company boasts a “super strong design team” and a production team, both of which are allowed to “flex their creative chops,” especially during the holidays, when they design a corrugated Christmas gift for its customers. “In the old days we would give booze to our customers but all that gave them was a hangover,” jokes Schaefer. “Now our unique Christmas gift is one way we can show off our skills to our customers. We tell them that they may only want or need a brown box now but if or when they need to take it to the next level, they have full access to our creative firepower. Our design and production teams do a phenomenal job with this kind of thing and it’s creat- ed several new project opportunities for us.” Superb Vendor Partnerships “Ownership and management at Tavens are of the philosophy that the company doesn’t need brand new,
