CinemaxX Overview Established in in 1989, Hans-Joachim Flebbe founded the Cinemaxx company together with the media entrepreneurs Rolf Deyhle and Bodo Scriba . On March 8, 1991, the first Cinemaxx opened in Hanover. The house in Essen followed on December 11 of the same year, which, with its 16 halls and a total of 5,300 seats, is still the largest multiplex cinema in Germany . As early as 1992, the Cinemaxx Hannover was the most economically successful cinema in Germany, followed by the Cinemaxx Essen. In 2012, the British cinema operator Vue International took over CinemaxX AG, and became CinemaxX Holdings GmbH. As of 2022, CinemaxX and Vue International have become the 3rd largest Cinema Operator in Europe, spanning ten countries, 228 sites and 1,992 screens. This includes UK, Ireland, Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, Italy, Poland, Latvia, Lithuania and Taiwan. The CinemaxX Group is one of the best-known cinema operators in the world, known for high quality picture and sound technology, oversized screens, modern cinema kiosks in air- conditioned cinemas and a sophisticated ambience. They’re also well known for the unique architectural design of many of the buildings, In addition to the full cinema programme, the chain broadcasts top-class classical, rock and pop concerts, as well as opera and ballet performances by the world’s most important artists on the big screen, many of them live.
