People & Places UPM Raflatac Receives Industry First From RecyClass UPM Raflatac has launched its New Wave paper label ma- terial compatible with recycling. It is the first RecyClass certified paper label material to obtain a Letter of Com- patibility for use on rigid high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and polypropylene (PP) containers.
As part of its sustainability journey, Maag has adopt- ed a lean management approach and is ISO 14001 certi- fied. In 2016, the company created the new position of Sustainability Manager/EHS Manager and appointed an environmental management expert who had a relation- ship with the North Rhine-Westphalia Efficiency Agency, an advisory institution that works to help companies be more sustainable. In 2020, the company opened a new production facility that meets the most modern requirements in terms of cli- mate protection, including solar panels on the roof, energy recovery from the waste heat of the converting process, low-emission generation of cooling capacity, and ultimate- ly, also of compressed air. Label Market To Expand To $69 Billion The self-adhesive labels market is projected to grow from $53.2 billion in 2023 to $69.2 billion by 2028 at a Com- pound Annual Growth Rate of 5.4 percent, according to a new report from MarketsandMarkets. Based on type, release liner labels are projected to register the highest CAGR during the forecast period. Based on printing technology, the flexography seg- ment is projected to register the highest CAGR during the forecast period.
The test results confirm the compatibility even for nat- ural and white material streams, which require the highest purity of recyclate from the recycling processes. At the moment, New Wave is reportedly the only Recy- Class-recognized label solution for rigid natural and white HDPE and PP material streams. The New Wave label material is designed to provide functionality for the full life cycle of products, primarily home and personal care products such as soap bottles or washing detergent containers. It supports the purity of re- cycled materials by washing off cleanly at just 40°C using plain water with no chemicals required. Maag Adds AWP CleanPrint To Company Offerings Maag GmbH, located in Ense, Germany, has added Asa- hi Photoproducts’ AWP CleanPrint Carbon Neutral wa- ter-washable flexographic printing plates to its offerings at the request of a key client. Adoption of these plates is in line with the company’s focus on sustainability. The client wanted the company to switch from solvent-wash to water-wash plates for produc- tion of its packaging. Maag GmbH currently employs 80 team members, operates out of a new, sustainably designed production facility, and has a turnover of about €20 million. Seven- ty percent of its business is in food-related packaging, with the remaining 30 percent comprised of toys, hygiene products and cosmetics.
