UPM Partners With Bobst, Siegwerk To Explore Flexo Opportunities Packaging supplier UPM Specialty Papers has collaborat- ed with Bobst and Siegwerk to create opportunities for UPM’s packaging papers on standard flexographic print- ing machines.

The initiative combined UPM’s papers with Siegw- erk’s UniNATURE water-based ink series, as well as two heat-sealing lacquers from the CIRKIT coatings range. The printing trials were conducted on the Bobst MAS- TER CI, a ten-color wide-web press optimized for wa- ter-based inks, achieving speeds up to 800 meters per minute. The collaboration also investigated how various pa- rameters influence print quality, with the tested resolu- tions and anilox configurations delivering high-resolution results across all four papers printed. The project also delivered parameters on ways to im- prove flexible packaging papers with heat-sealing proper- ties with flexographic printing. UPM’s fibre-based packaging papers are designed for both food and non-food applications. Packaging Printing Market Size To Hit $557.90 By 2031 The global packaging printing market size was valued at $369.02 billion in 2023 and is predicted to hit around $ 530.83 billion by 2031, according to a study published by Precedence Research. Flexographic printing is currently used in around 40 percent of all printed packaging used worldwide, and its use is growing at a pace of about 5 percent per year.

During a joint project, the partners demonstrated that UPM’s packaging papers could be printed efficiently while achieving heat-sealability using flexographic techniques.
