REED’S “FISHING” D id you ever go fishing, boys and girls, and have the thrill of catching a fish? It is fun, isn’t it? A little boy named Donald brought me some fish this summer. He and his mother had spent the day on a barge, and came back with forty-three fish. Was Donald happy to have a part in catching so many fish? Indeed he was!

—saved boys and girls who have been sent by God into all kinds of places. As He called Paul, you know, God has called us by His grace to reveal His Son in us (Gal. 1:15, 16) and has sent us forth “in Christ’s stead” (2 Cor. 5 :20). The journey men went forth, but they merely told of the beauty of the master workman’s ma terial. Many, today, like the journeymen, are telling of Christ, but are failing in their everyday lives to show His beauty and loveliness. The Little Samples went forth to manifest the beauty and durability of the material and the enduring qualities of its lovely color. We are all sample Christians, and as such we must follow the advice given by our Master Workman in the Word of God. If we want to be good sample Christians, we must keep our color, true blue; we must be durable, dependable, and must not draw attention to ourselves, but to Christ whose samples we are. Memory Work The K. Y. B. C. memory work for this month is a verse for each letter in the word “August.” “A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger” (Prov. 15 T). “Unto thee, O my strength, will I sing: for God is my defense, and the God of my mercy” (Psa. 59:17). “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” (Psa. 46:1). “Unto you therefore which believe he is precious” (1 Pet. 2:7). “Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you” (Matt. 6:33). “This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief” (1 Tim. 1:15). Answer to June “Bible Arithmetic” Answer worked out: 969 (Gen. 5 :27) + 40 (1 Ki. 2:11) — 9 (Lk. 17:17)' II 100 (John 19:39). Tenth book,. Ephesians. 10—4—6. Chapter 6, verses 1, 2. Bible Baseball No doubt every boy and girl has at some time played a.game of baseball. What a good game it is 1 But have you ever played Bible baseball? How you will enjoy it! It is such a good way, too, to learn Bible verses and facts about the Bible. Before you are ready to play Bible base ball, you will have to learn a list of Bible facts and verses. The “Bible Drills” which have appeared from time to time on this page will help. If you have learned these, you are ready to play. Divide up into two groups just as you would for baseball. Place four pieces of paper on the floor to represent the four bases. Your teacher will act as umpire and hold the list of questions. The side that is “up” will line up, and each one will take a turn. As the player stands at the batsman’s place, the umpire will ask a Bible fact. If this is answered correctly, first base may be taken, and the next player steps up to “bat.” When all bases have been covered, or four questions have been answered by four different players, a “run” is scored. If a question is not answered correctly, an “out” is made. When three “outs” are made, the other side takes its place at the bat. The side receiving the most “runs” wins.

But there is another kind of fishing that brings an even deeper joy, and that is “fishing for souls.” You know that when the Lord Jesus was here upon earth, He said to two fishermen one day, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” To fish for men means to win men and women and boys and girls for the Lord Jesus. Any one can do this. Many have accepted the Saviour because of a word from a child* Two years ago, a boy of twelve named Reed accepted the Lord as his Saviour at the Children’s Special Service Mission at the beach. He was very happy to know that he was saved, and in his Bible wrote these words: “I received the Lord Jesus as my own Saviour today, July 30, 1933.” All the next year he kept reading his Bible and hiding away in his heart many passages of Scripture. Last summer Reed again attended the Children’s Special Service Mission. One day he came to the meeting, his face alight with a new joy. “I won a soul for the Lord Jesus!” Reed exclaimed. “Tell me all about it, Reed,” the teacher urged, and this was his reply: “On July 18, I was building a fence out of match sticks like we do down in the sand when we build Bible stories. The little boy next door was watching me, and I began to tell him about Jesus. I asked him, ‘Are you saved?’ “He said, ‘What do you mean?’ “I answered, ‘Have you accepted the Lord as your Saviour ?’ “I then told him about heaven and ever lasting life, and that we can have that life if we believe in Him. Then I said, ‘Let’s bow our heads, and you repeat what I say: Dear heavenly Father, please for give my sins, and, Lord Jesus, come into my heart today. Amen.’ He repeated it with me, and then I saw a smile come on his face and I knew that he was saved.” The thrill of catching a fish on the pier or barge could not be compared to this joy, and Reed’s happiness knew no bounds. This was the first person Reed had led to Christ. He has become a “fisher of men.” God’s Word says: “He that winneth souls is wise” (Prov. 11:30). Then let us be wise, boys and girls, begin now to tell out the “good news,” and seek to lead some one to accept the Lord Jesus as Saviour.—M. S. H.
