DARKEST AMERICA Do you know that there are thousands of communities in the United States where the Gospel is not preached? Think of a generation growing up without the influence of Church, Sunday School, or Bible; What are we going to do about it? Are we going to let these young people grow up at our very doors in ignorance of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ? If you cannot go let us be your representative. A mission has been formed for this purpose, and Rev. Homer Stanley Morgan is to devote his time to the evangelization of these neglected places. Here is a field worthy of your prayer and attention. “Is it not lawful for me to do what 1 will with mine own?" (Matt. 20:15). It is a revelation to most of us, when for the first time, Christ says to us per sonally, “Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own?” . . . We know not until we are day by day on the great ocean of His mysterious providence what the sealed orders contain; but God breaks them open to us day by day, as He opens out His own providence, His own plan, saying to us, “Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own?” But mark that with this He gives us that wonderful, compensating term of endearment, “mine own"L I know nothing that so directly appeals to the redeemed soul as this—the 1ord Jesus calls me His own. Lord Jesus, dare we keep anything back from Thee? —C. A. Fox. SEPTEMBER 28 The Holy Spirit’s Work "Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his” (Rom. 8:9). Nothing can compensate the church, or the individual Christian, for the lack of the Holy Spirit. What the principle of life is to the body, that the Holy Spirit is to the individual. We shall stand powerless and abashed in the presence of our difficulties and our foes, until we learn that He can be as a mighty tide of love and power in the hearts of His saints. , . . Do you lack vic tory over sin? He is the blessed antidote to the risings and dominion of the flesh. When he fills the heart in His glorious fullness, the suggestions of temptation are instantly quenched, as sparks in the ocean wave.—F. B. M eyer . Nothing is sure in this world but the purposes of God. No interests are safe but His. No cause is secure but His. Until we can get our private individual concerns within the lines of His plans,-we can be sure of nothing. This is the province of believing prayer in emergencies—to lift us up and out from our petty selves, and so unite us with God that our interests are His, because His interests have become ours. Our will is His because His will has been accepted as ours. . . . We belong to God. Whatever concerns us concerns Him. If it is best for us that we be delivered, it is as much to God as to us that He shall send deliverance.— A usten P helps . SEPTEMBER 30 Vanishing Impossibilities “I f the Lord would make windows in heaven, might this thing be?" (2 Ki. 7:2). God’s promises often seem to the natural hea. t utter impossibilities. Even His own children are prone to yield to unbelief. But let us never forget there is nothing more dishonoring to God than the spirit of doubting. Israel’s history in the wilder ness is a standing object lesson illustrating the evil consequences of unbelief. Faith does not reason touching the probability of a thing. It begins 'by remembering the character of Him who promises. “Hath he said, and shall he not do it?” “Have faith in God.” All impossibility vanishes when we once grasp the fact that it is He who is omnipotent that has spoken the word. —S elected . SEPTEMBER 29 God’s Ownership “O Lord', thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee" (2 Chron. 14:11).
