Tim Banerjee Dhoul provides an introduction

LOCATION

As part of the Faculty of Economics and Administration, UC School of Management is based at UC’s San Joaquín campus in Greater Santiago. First used as a research station by the Faculty of Agricultural Systems, UC’s biggest campus became the centre of a plan to unite faculties dispersed across Santiago. Today, it accommodates more than 22,000 students across 70 buildings. However, since 2023, UC School of Management also has a new base at Nueva Las Condes, alongside the upmarket Las Condes area typically considered home to Chile’s economic elite. Santiago de Chile is Latin America’s smartest city, according to an IESE Cities in Motion ranking that considers social cohesion, human capital and economic performance.

HISTORY

COURSES

Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (UC) was founded in 1888. The university admitted its first female student, Celia Pérez Matus in 1918, with general admission for women authorised in 1922, the year of Pérez’s graduation. Two years later, the Faculty of Economics and Administration (then called the Faculty of Commerce and Economic Sciences) was established. Today, the faculty comprises the Escuela de Administración UC (UC School of Management) and the Institute of Economics.

First established in 1996, the UC School of Management MBA is now available as an executive MBA that can be taken on an evening or weekend schedule, or as a blended MBA that combines three intensive weeks of on-site classes with an international seminar and synchronous remote classes. There are also six master’s degrees on offer, including a master’s in innovation studied over two years in a modular format and an online master’s in business analytics that recently celebrated the graduation of its first class.
