trance of the Hall, and before several others, apologized for interrupting one of the services a few weeks before. After he had gone home he said he was very miserable because of conviction of sin and the same night was taken sick and rushed to the hospital. While there he received a Bible from his Christian mother and was saved through reading it. As soon as possible he was back at the Hall, telling of his joy in the Lord, giving out tracts and evidencing his new birth by trying to win some one else to our Lord. A Man With a Beady Heart One of our workers felt led of the Lord to follow and accost a young man. This man had been listening to one of the m any' daily entrance services and had just left. The worker soon discov ered a heart hungry for the Word of Life. The Lord had prepared him by taking from him his devoted Christian wife a short time previously. This shock had awakened him to a certainty of eter nity and to his need of a Saviour. He had already started to attend church and had been reading the Word, so was ready to make a definite confession of Christ» He went home th a t night overjoyed to know th a t he was going to see his wife again. An Old Man Born Again One night the speaker noticed an eld erly man in the crowd listening to the message. He was exceptionally well dressed and of fine appearance, and only remained in front for a few moments and then entered the Hall. This in itself was unusual and attracted the attention of the leader who sent one of the men to speak to him. In a short time the old gentleman definitely accepted the Lord as his Saviour. Winning him seemed so simple and easy th a t the worker ques tioned him closely as to whether he really knew what he was doing. He re plied, “ I certainly have accepted Christ as my Saviour—th a t is just what I came in here to do.” Ju st a Gospel Did I t “The Word of God is quick and pow erful.” A young man, to whom a Gospel of John was given a t one of the afternoon services, read the Word and was con victed of sin and of his need of a Saviour. He came back a few evenings later, definitely accepted Christ, and went on his way rejoicing. Another received a copy of the Word of God during the war and read it faith

fully. One of our young men stopped him on the street and easily led him to speak of his soul’s need. He had been prepared by the Word and convinced of his sinfulness and helplessness, so eager ly. listened to the “old, old story” and the personal testimony of the' worker and accepted the Lord who died for him. And so they come and go day after day and night after night. Only eter nity will show how many thousands have been saved through the reading of His Word. i t e g fe ' There has been much in the last month to rejoice over and prayers have been answered in a wonderful way in re gard to the work. We tru st to report what He has done for us more fully in next month’s report, if He tarries, and we wish to thank the many who have been in prayer with us for the work, asking Him to raise up many more to pray for this needy field among the men of the sea. God has also again given us precious souls, a good number having accepted Christ as their personal Sav ior, according to their word, for which we thank Him. How God Leads His Workers The worker walking along the water front in a big port like San Francisco has continually to guard against going where he would like to go and so often, yes, continually has a good number to choose from. It is very necessary 'that, one should be led of the Spirit in order to reach needy souls. So often His lead ing is specially manifest and then souls are reached who are neediest. Several times it was the worker’s intention to visit a certain English steamer and each time he was prevented from going by the arrival of other vessels which were to be in port only a short time and had to be reached first. On this particular boat a man encountered on deck was very open and friendly. In his room on the big ship he opened his heart to the worker and finally Confessed th a t he was unsaved, but for a'long time he thought th a t the fact th a t he prayed every night was enough. He had had good training and help at home, but was never brought to see the necessity of being “born again.” The Spirit of God led him to see his need and the struggle, was a fierce one, Satan saying to him not to make a hasty decision but to think matters over, etc. SEAMEN’S WORK Oscar Zimmermann, Supt.
