JANUARY 2, 1921 THE CHILD AND THE KINGDOM Golden Text: Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. M a t.l8 :4 . LESSON TEXT Mat. 18:1-14. (Read Mk. 9:33-50; Lu. 9:46-48; 17:1, 2; 18:4). (1) At the same hour came the disciples

to enter into life halt or maimed rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire. (9) And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire. (ICO Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say untQ you, th at in heaven their angels do always behold the face of My Father which is in heaven. (11) For the Son of man is come to save th at which was lost. (12) How think ye if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone? . (13) And if so be th at he find it, verily I say Unto you, he rejoiceth more of th at sheep, than of the ninety and nine which went not astray. (14)'E ven so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, th at one of these little ones should perish.

unto Jesus^-saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? (2) And Je sus called a little child, unto Him, and set him in the m idst of them. (3) And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be con verted and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom ot heaven. (4) Whosoever Ji^refore shall humble himself as thi*. little;; child, the same is greates in the kingdom of heaven. (5) And whoso shall receive one such little child in My name receiveth Me (6) But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in Me it were better for him th at a millstone were hanged about his neck, and th at he were drowned in the depth of the sea. (7) Woe unto the world because of offences for it m ust needs be th at offences come; but woe to th at man by whom the offence cometh! (8) Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee: it is better for thee Theme: Entrance to and Eminence in the Kingdom. Outline. (1) The Gate to the Kingdom, vs. 1-3. (2) The Greatest in the Kingdom, v. 4. (3) The Guilt of Offending, vs. 5-9, (4) The Guardian Angels, v. 10. (5) The Gracious Messenger, vs. 11- 14. Introduction. Following the transfiguration, Jesus and His disciples descended the Mount and found the disciples with the de

moniac child. The disciples could not effect a cure, but Jesus cast out the de mon and rebuked the unbelief of the dis ciples which had hin dered them from working the miracle. LESSON EXPOSITION T. C. Horton (1) THE GATE OF THE KINGDOM, vs. 1^3. The effect of the transfiguration should have been to humble the dis ciples. They should have walked quiet ly and softly and in great humility, but it had the opposite effect. They were filled with new hopes for the kingdom
