THE K I NG ' S BUS I NES S CALAMITOUS, v. 14. “And He healed them." What contrasts are in these pictures! The lowly King, riding upon an ass. The indignant King, driving before Him those whose love of money had led them to invade the place of His Pres ence, and now the compassionate King, bending in iove to minister to the af flicted. If He drove some, He drew others,— the publicans and sinners, the lame and blind. For all of the needy ones He has the loving heart and outstretched hand. From His heart flows sympathy and love. From His lips flow words of comfort and cheer, and from His hands drop blessings upon' all. It is ever thus with Him. Why is it so seldom thus with us who follow Him? In the most crucial seasons of His life He has time and patience for those who crowd upon Him for help. (Luke 23: 42, 43). Have we not here a prophetic picture of those blessings which will come to a ruined world when the Kirig comes back and begins His benign reign upon the earth? (4) THE KING HUSHING CRITI CISM, vs. 15-17. “Out of the mouth ol babes and sucklings hast thou perfected praise.” The children were probably keeping up the song of triumph, and the many who were healed increased the popu larity of the Lord. The leaders were blind. Unbelief and prejudice; had closed their eyes to the tru th and their hearts to the testimony. The people loved Him, and this intensified the hat red of the rulers. . They could not abide these popular demonstrations in His honor. This spirit yet animates many of God’s . children. Jealousy and envy of those upon whom the blessing of God rests, - —-how it has hindered His praise and glory! How hard it" is to stifle it! Nothing ljut the love of God shed abroad in our hearts can conquer this Satanic spirit.
66 again in person. His feet will stand up on the same Mount of Olives. He will come in glory to reign, riding—not up on the colt of an ass—but upon the warrior’s charger. (Rev. 19:11-16). All Scripture will he fulfilled to the very letter. (2) T H E K I N G ’S H O U S E CLEANSED, vs. 12, 13. “And cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple.’’ The following day Jesus went into the temple and drove out the money chang ers. These were the traders who had an assortment of victims for the ac commodation of those who came to the feast, and also the sacred shekel which only could be used for offerings in the temple. The business was legitimate, but it had no place in the temple, and it was no doubt conducted in an unscrupulous way. The Lord assumes His sovereign place and drives out the traders as He did at the beginning of His ministry. (John 2:13-17). Then He called the temple, “My Father’s house.” Now He calls it “My house.’.’ This act also was a fulfillment of Scripture (Jer. 7:11). The temple is a place of worship,—a dwelling-place for God. If His power is to be manifested, the temple must be clean. No church building is to be compared to the temple at Jerusalem. The only dwelling-place which God has on earth now is in the bodies of believers. (1 Cor. 6:19, 20). “W hat ! know ye not that your body is the temple of thé Holy Ghost, which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For y e are bought w ith a price; therefore, glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.** - They should be kept sacred for His use. This act of the Lord was no doubt symbolic, and when He comes the sec ond time in judgment, He will put to shame and contempt those who have dishonored His house. (3) THE KING HEALING THE
