The claim these exponents of mod ern scientific interpretation make that they voice the only and final verdict of scholarship is an unmitigated false hood! There are no superior scholars on earth today when you measure their scholarship with th a t of the great spir itual leaders of other centuries who stood for the whole Bible as God breathed, and who believed in literal sin,-literal salvation, literal heaven, lit eral hell, literal shedding of blood on the cross by a literal Saviour to save men and women and children from the power of a literal personal devil. This conceited specimen of modernism had the audacity to call himself a “con servative” when I described the presi dent of a certain Baptist college in West ern Canada, who was angry a t me be cause I branded all who deny the Virgin birth of Christ as infidels. He asked: “Would you split the Baptist church on the basis of the fact th a t these educa tors deny the Virgin Birth ,of Christ?” I replied, “ I certainly would, for these theological Bolshevik! are seeking to glorify bastardy when they teach the young people th a t Joseph was the instru ment used by the Holy Spirit in bringing Jesus Christ into the world.” He then asked with great choler: “Would you split the church on the doctrine of pre- millenialism?” I answered: “I cer tainly would not. The opposition to the doctrine of Kingship of Jesus Christ is due more to ignorance of the teaching of Scripture on the-part of those who ac cept the Bible as Divinely inspired than to any other cause. I have seen many ministers come clearly into the light, because they accept the Bible as the only
dresses of some of the men who spoke in the Northern Baptist Convention, and who have been holding Conferences on Fundamentals in many cities of the Na tion. Dr. Riley, the champion of sound doctrine, was flayed for his unscholarly attitude in teaching his young people the “literal” view of the Bible. This paragon of profound erudition said the young people from Dr. Riley’s church appear in colleges, and when they are presented the "scholarly meth od” of Bible study and interpretation they instantly rebel, and they seem un able to appreciate the efforts of these highly educated college professors, to emancipate them from the fatal bondage of literalism. “Who are to blame?” he asked several times. I was interested in giving the leader of the young peo ple’s work of his denomination all the rope he wanted so I only gave a few jolts to stir him up to voice his opposi tion to the men who are leading men to Christ, while these pedantic col lege crooks are teaching the same infi delity that Thos. Paine taught over one hundred years ago. While Paine was man enough to call himself an enemy of the Bible and Christianity, these modern infidels garb themselves in the robes of the ministry or the college professor, and teach infidelity as the “assured findings of the world’s greatest schol ars.”
