King's Business - 1921-01

THE K I N G ’S BUS I NES S states that religious authorities in other well known institutions are with him. No doubt something of this kind will soon be brought forth. It is fully in line with the predicted apostasy. If we had the chance, we would cast our vote for Prof. Budweiser (beg pardon— Breitweiser) for president of the Society of Undesirable Preachers. |I§ j& GIVE ME THY BEST “Give me thy best,” the Master said to me, “Give all thou hast and all thou a rt to be. “Nor fear to give, I will sustain thy need.” . Then it was morning and I did not heed. Again the Master stooped to seek my face, And then I marvelled a t His wondrous grace, And made for Him a place within my heart. He asked for all—I gave a meagre part. I toiled for Him, nor grudged the time I spent. I taught His love, not knowing what it meant. And still He poured rich gifts upon the soul, That selfish still, resented His control. And then in love He took my treasures rare, And one by one fell hope and castle fair Till naked and ashamed I sought His face. And yielded Him a t last His rightful place. —Frances T. Reid, a B. I. The daily papers reported that 106 Cor nell students were recently expelled for fraud in their June examinations. During the investigation of college authorities, evidence of wholesale crib bing by college students was brought out. This is the first time in the his tory of Cornell th a t fraud has had to be dealt with on such a scale. Stuff men’s heads and starve their hearts, and the above result may be assured. The worst crooks on earth are the educated ones. Education simply sharpens the tools with which they work. It takes the blood of Jesus and the regenerating power of the Holy Spirit to set the heart right. How is it th a t the word “Evangel ism” is being featured so much ju st now by some of our denominational leaders who have been noted in the past for their antagonistic attitude to evangel ists? Do they really believe in the old- time Holy Ghost revivals? Are they really anxious to publish the Gospel of Grace? Some people say they can “smell a ra t”—for the methods proposed in their evangelistic programs have little in common with those of Bible times. The emphasis is on “social evangelism” —“sane evangelism”—“up-to-date evan gelism,” etc. Is this not an attempt to becloud the issue th a t has been raised in the denominations by the “Funda mentalists?” Many people might be led to think, because Of all the talk about evangelism, th a t these leaders, after all, were not so far from the faith. If we’re going in for revivals, let’s have the kind th a t come from heaven. Declaring that both the Old and New Testaments have outworn their lessons and th a t scholars the world over agree in realizing their inadequacy, Prof. Breit- weiser (the name is suggestive) of the University of California, is advocating a new Bible which would contain the spir itual insights from all sources, including the Koran and Buddhistic teachings.
