This morning we enjoy a scenic drive to Tintern Abbey . We spend time exploring before visiting the town’s craft and antique shops. Next we travel to Symonds Yat, a famous viewpoint over the Wye Valley. We also take a circular River Wye cruise. Day 3 Chepstow & Dean Forest Railway Today begins with a visit to Chepstow Castle . After exploring the historic market town of Chepstow, we travel to Norchard and the Dean Forest Railway. We have time to visit the museum and be shown around its locomotive restoration shed before a return journey on a steam or heritage diesel train , through the medieval Forest of Dean. Day 4 Black & White Villages and Hereford Today, we visit famous Black & White villages of Weobley, Pembridge and Leominster. These medieval villages have some of England’s prettiest half-timbered buildings along with art galleries, cosy pubs & traditional tearooms. Next we enjoy free time in Hereford. Day 5 Departure After breakfast, we make our way home. HOW ABOUT? This would be the ideal day to add in a step-on guide service, introducing a fabulous local guide who can bring the magnificent local surroundings to life with fascinating commentary. We spend today in the wonderful medieval city of Salisbury. We enjoy the morning at leisure, perhaps visiting one of the fascinating museums, admiring the 18th-century Mompesson House or simply browsing the shops. This afternoon, we visit the city’s highlight: magnificent 13th-century Salisbury Cathedral which boasts the UK’s tallest spire, a working 14th-century clock and an original copy of the Magna Carta. Our visit to this 800-year-old masterpiece includes a guided tour and a tasty cream tea.

We can also arrange a visit to Stonehenge.

Day 3 Winchester & Sir Harold Hillier Gardens A morning free in historic Winchester provides a fabulous opportunity to explore England’s former ancient capital. Amongst the sights are Winchester Cathedral, the coronation site of many English monarchs, the 13th-century Great Hall, home to King Arthur’s Round Table; and the exterior of Jane Austen’s House. We can also relax over lunch in one of its many appealing restaurants This afternoon, we visit nearby Sir Harold Hillier Gardens , an arboretum covering 180 acres with an unparalleled collection of oaks, camelia, magnolia and rhododendron. Day 4 Departure After breakfast, we make our way home. Why not replace one of the above days with a visit to magnificent Longleat!
