Day 4 Keswick & Bassenthwaite Lake Station We spend this morning at leisure in the lovely market town of Keswick nestled between the majestic Skiddaw Mountain and the serene lake of Derwentwater with plenty of shops, restaurants and museums to explore. In the afternoon, we enjoy a delicious afternoon tea at Bassenthwaite Lake Station . Situated opposite the scenic Dubwath Silver Meadows nature reserve, the restored railway station has a delightful café with a full-size replica steam train, and former Art Deco carriage in which to enjoy our indulgent tea. Day 5 Departure After breakfast, we make our way home. Day 1 Arrival We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner. Day 2 Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway & Muncaster Castle This morning, we make our way to the coastal village of Ravenglass and embark on a return railway journey on the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway to the heart of the Lake District, Dalegarth. Locally known as the La’al Ratty, onboard we enjoy the views and tuck into a delicious cream tea . On our return to Ravenglass, we visit the historic Muncaster Castle & Gardens , which is still family-owned in a magnificent setting in the Western Lake District. Day 3 Lowther Castle and Gardens & Ullswater Steamers This morning we visit Lowther Castle and Gardens, and after a short introductory talk, we have time at leisure to explore the castle and gardens. After being abandoned for 50 years, today the gardens are nearly 20 years into a masterplan of restoration, offering visitors a wealth of fascinating discoveries, from the courtyard with its sculptured hornbeam sentinels to the Rose Garden, wildflower meadows and rambling woodland. In the afternoon, we enjoy a scenic cruise on one of England’s most beautiful lakes, Ullswater from Pooley Bridge to Glenridding. Sailing on a heritage steamer boat, we can take in the stunning mountain and lakeland views.
