Steeped in myths and legends, the ancient Welsh town of Llangollen is our focus for this fantastic tour. Highlights include a horse-drawn canal boat cruise along the beautiful waters of the Llangollen Canal, a trip on the Llangollen Railway and a visit to mighty Chirk Castle.

Day 1 Arrival We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner. Day 2 Llangollen & Horse Drawn Canal Trip

We spend today at leisure in the historic city of Chester which has the most complete city walls and largest Roman Amphitheatre in Britain, plus a 1,000-year-old cathedral and 700-year-old unique shopping rows. Visit the cathedral (free entry) and its 13th century refectory before heading to the High Cross at midday (11am on race days) to hear the Town Crier’s public proclamations (Tues - Sat Jun - Aug). In the afternoon, we enjoy a 30 minute return river cruise on the River Dee, sailing upstream, under the suspension bridge to the city limits. Day 3 Mold & Llandudno Wednesday is market day in Mold, so after breakfast we make the short journey to the town to enjoy a quick stroll around its popular street market, one of the biggest and best in North Wales, held since 1808! From here, we enjoy a lovely drive via Colwyn Bay to the ‘Queen of Welsh’ resorts, Llandudno, with its wonderful beaches and lovely wide promenade. While here we enjoy a ride to the top of the Great Orme on the beautifully restored tram. Day 4 Llangollen & Pontcysyllte Aqueduct We have free time this morning in Llangollen. In the afternoon, we enjoy a 2 hour motorised canal boat trip on the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct , taking us along a five mile stretch of the Llangollen Canal. Our trip includes crossing the world famous Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, known as the ‘Stream in the Sky’, Pontcysyllte Aqueduct has been named as the most captivating UNESCO World Heritage Site in the world – that’s some accolade! Day 5 Departure After breakfast, we make our way home. INCLUSIONS • Return cruise on the River Dee • Tram ride to the top of Great Orme • Motorised canal boat trip

After breakfast, we enjoy time at leisure in Llangollen before we experience a 2-hour relaxing horse-drawn canal boat cruise , admiring the Chain Bridge across the River Dee and marvelling at the manmade Horseshoe Falls, a striking feature on the river, whilst gliding along one of the most beautiful lengths of canal you will ever see. We’ll also enjoy a Welsh cream tea box onboard. Day 3 Llangollen Railway & Ruthin This morning, we head for Llangollen Railway , which is primarily a steam hauled heritage railway. Our 90-minute return journey begins beside the Dee River Bridge in the town centre & continues for 10 miles upstream to Carrog station, where we enjoy spectacular views over the River Dee. We have free time at Carrog station before we board our train back to Llangollen. In the afternoon, we drive from Llangollen to Ruthin via the Horseshoe Pass and admire the views. We have time at leisure in the historic market town of Ruthin. Denbighshire’s first coach-friendly town, Ruthin is packed with history from medieval times to the Tudors and more. Explore its cobbled streets & attractions including Ruthin Castle, Nantclwyd y Dre or the Ruthin Gaol (the only purpose-built Pentonville style prison open to the public as a heritage attraction). Day 4 Chirk Castle We travel to the medieval fortress of Chirk Castle this morning, which reveals 400 years of changing tastes in its lavishly furnished rooms. We have free time for lunch in the historic kitchen before strolling through the gardens – stand on the terrace and admire the 18th century ha-ha at the bottom of the garden, with stunning views. Day 5 Departure After breakfast, we make our way home. INCLUSIONS • Horse-drawn canal boat cruise • Return journey on Llangollen Railway • Entrance to Chirk Castle
