WELCOME

March 2025

Shalom and Welcome to ITB 2025. It is an honor to welcome you to ITB 2025, the world’s leading travel trade show. As the Director of the Israel Tourism Office in Berlin, I am excited to participate in this important event, that brings together industry professionals, partners, and friends to shape the future of travel. The past months have been challenging for all of us, and Israel’s tourism industry has faced significant obstacles. However, resilience is at the heart of our story. Israel has always rebounded stronger from difficult times, and today, we stand ready once again to welcome visitors and partners with open arms. Throughout this period, our priority has been to maintain close ties with our partners in the German-speaking market. Despite the challenges, interest in Israel remains strong, and we deeply appreciate our partners’ loyalty and commitment. Signs of recovery are becoming more visible: international flights are increasing, tourism is picking up, and Israel is ready to welcome visitors once again. In the past year, we have organized and participated in B2B events, fairs, seminars, press meetings, and roadshows, ensuring that Israel remains on the travel map. We organized media trips to give them the opportunity to experience firsthand that Israel is, as always, an inspiring and diverse destination. Looking ahead, we are committed to supporting and accelerating the recovery of tourism. Through marketing initiatives, collaborations with tour operators and airlines, PR actions, and targeted industry events, we will restore confidence and drive renewed demand for travel to Israel. Israel is a land of history, culture, and innovation, where ancient heritage meets modern experiences, making it a must-visit destination with endless tourism opportunities. Its diverse landscapes, vibrant cities, and rich traditions continue to attract travelers, and we strongly believe that with the Israeli tourism industry’s adaptability and strength, along with our joint efforts, 2025 will be a significant step toward renewed success. I wish us all a successful ITB 2025, full of productive meetings, new opportunities, and optimism for the future. Tourism is more than an industry—it is a bridge between cultures, bringing people together. Looking forward to welcoming your guests to Israel – Land of Creation.

THE OLD CITY OF AKKO INVITES YOU TO DISCOVER ITS SECRETS ABOVEGROUND AND BELOW

Old Akko (Acre) is a port city situated on a peninsula on the Mediterranean coast in northern Israel. It is known for its well-preserved old city walls. A visit to this ancient city is an important part of the Holy Land experience and one of Israel’s main tourist destinations. Currently home to thousands of residents, Akko is a study of contrasts – the convergence of East and West, modernity and antiquity, beauty and ruins. Known for centuries as the gateway to the Holy Land due to its location as a port of entry for international dignitaries and trade, Akko provides a unique glimpse into the Crusader and Ottoman periods in the region. The subterranean crusader city was revealed and restored under the Ottoman city above. This extraordinary phenomenon was awarded World Heritage Site by UNESCO. POINTS OF INTEREST: The Knights’ Kingdom A 5,000-year old story unfolds inside the halls of the citadel - the museum’ displays and films projected on the walls tell the story of the crusades. During this tour, each visitor receives a headset, and can choose one of 10 different languages. The Hospitaller Fortress The Hospitaller Order, which thrived in Jerusalem during the First Crusader Kingdom (1099-1187) transferred its headquarters to Akko during the Second Crusader Kingdom (1191-1291). The

Hospitallers expanded their headquarters and rebuilt the site, which consisted of two to three floors around a central court as

well as underground sections. The Templars Tunnel

The Templars were a military-monastic order who – in the name of the pope – aided pilgrims and the ailing coming from Europe to visit the holy sites of the Land of Israel. MORE POINTS OF INTEREST: The colorful Market Street and Bazaars are the main thoroughfare of the Old City, running from north to south. One cannot visit the city without tasting the delicious dishes at the wonderful Chef Restaurants and paying a visit at the unique Boutique Hotels. A ferry from Akko to Haifa and from Haifa to Akko is a special experience that offers tourists the chance to enjoy the spectacular views of the cities by sea (times being subject to weather condition). There are Churches, Mosques and Synagogue in Old Akko. Some of them are opened to visits. The “Or Torah” Synagogue in the new city is a site worth seeing. So is the “Al Basha” Turkish Bath and the Seraya, a structure built during Turkish rule in Akko, in the late 18th century, where the offices of the civilian regime officials were located. It is also recommended to visit the galleries in the Old City and the “Okashi” Art Museum as well as the “Treasures in the Walls” Museum.

New in the Knights Halls - Old Akko A spectacular Video Mapping Night Show at an international level, in the Crusader Fortress courtyard, with innovative technology, spectacular colours, original melodies and sights that will leave you in awe!The show will take both adults and children on a historical journey, target date is June, 2025. OLD AKKO (ACRE) Akko is a city that has been shaped by the Romans, Byzantines, Crusaders, Mamelukes, Ottomans and British, and fittingly is today home to brilliantly coexistent mixed population of Muslims, Jews, Christians, Druze and Baha’i. Akko is a study in contrasts - the convergence of east and west, modernity and antiquity, beauty and ruins.

HOLIDAYMAKERS ARE RETURNING TO EILAT

The Ministry of Tourism is hosting agents and representatives of Russian airlines who are interested in opening a route to Ramon Airport this winter

T he holiday tourists are back! After a long period in which tourism to Israel declined dramatically due to the war, and mainly included solidarity delegations and a Jewish audience, the Ministry of Tourism marks 2025 as the year of the return of tourists to Israel. This week, the Ministry is hosting a group from Russia that includes 10 large tourism wholesaler and 3 representatives from airlines who are interested in opening a line from Moscow to Eilat this winter. The delegation was also joined by 11 Russian journalists. The delegation is visiting the classic route in Jerusalem,

the Dead Sea, and attractions in and around Eilat (Dolphin Reef, the Underwater Observatory, Timna, and more). In addition, the members of the delegation are meeting with hoteliers and agents to formulate vacation packages suitable for different levels of accommodation. They will also visit Ramon Airport for the purpose of opening a direct line from Moscow. The planned accommodation and vacation packages are the result of the work of the ministry and partners in Israel, in recent times, with the tourism industry in Russia to overcome technical challenges, resulting from the geopolitical situation.

The visit is taking place in cooperation with the Eilat Municipality and the Municipal Tourism Corporation, the Eilat and Dead Sea Hotel Association and the Airports Authority. About a week ago, the ministry hosted the CEO of the Russian airline “Red Wings”, Vladimir Kaminin, who came to Israel to examine the possibility of opening a route from Moscow to Eilat. During the war, in 2024, about 7,000 tourists from Russia entered Israel. It is now in fourth place in the volume of tourism entering Israel from it, after the USA, France and England. In 2019 – the peak year for tourist arrivals

to Israel – 23,000 tourists entered from Russia, which placed it in second place on the list of countries of origin of tourism to Israel. Tourism is both an informational tool and an economic catalyst that routinely brings nearly 30 billion ILS into the economy every year. The ministry operates an innovative strategy for restoration, focusing on personalized door-to-door marketing for sympathetic audiences with a high motivation to visit Israel/the Holy Land and for audiences that are less affected by complex geopolitical situations.
