References At least two work references must be obtained to cover a minimum of the last six months of employment. If a candidate has been employed by more than two employers in the last six months, then multiple references must be obtained to cover this period. The employer references must include: • Full Name and Job Title • Company name • Relationship to candidate • A work email address • Contact telephone number If a candidate is unable to provide two work references (if they have been employed by one company for an extended period of time), then one employment and one-character reference will be accepted. If a candidate is unable to provide employment references (if they have been unemployed for an extended period of time) or have no employment history a minimum of two-character references must be obtained. If the candidate has lived abroad for a period of more than six months during the last three years they need to provide a certificate of good conduct or an overseas police check in English from the countries resided in or visited - for guidance and contacts about how to do this, see www.gov.uk/government/publications/criminalrecords-checks-for-overseas-applicants . Character reference A character reference should be provided by someone who has known the candidate for a minimum of two years who is not a relative or close friend. The character reference must include: • Full Name • How long they have known the candidate • Their relationship to the candidate • An email address • Contact telephone number
