Of particular interest to Members was BIFA’s coverage of HMRC’s increased scrutiny of forwarders’ liability for misdeclarations and under-paid revenue, which has significantly increased the due diligence overhead and risk on forwarders
wishing to take on new customers for Customs brokerage work. NORTHERN IRELAND - Shauneen McConville The NI regional meeting welcomed 21 Members and was supported by Steve Parker. NI Members discussed the daily challenges presented by two Customs tariffs, and how it is
critical for Members not only to understand the unique position that is presented to Northern Ireland but to understand and appreciate the changes afoot in GB. Carl Hobbis advised members that BIFA is now engaged with the NI Department for the Economy, which inspired insightful conversation around apprentice recruitment and tailoring to our industry in NI.
