Progress Through Testing Understanding EPDs Expected Progeny Difference (EPD) is the prediction of how future progeny of each animal are expected to perform relative to the progeny of other animals listed in the database. EPDs are expressed in units of measure for the trait, plus or minus. Genomic-enhanced EPDs are the best estimate of an animal’s genetic value as a parent combining all available sources of information. Genomics permit higher prediction accuracies for younger animals and characterizes genetics for traits where it’s difficult to measure the phenotype.
