A Longstanding Commitment to Patient Care
Tabitha’s Still Helping Create Happy Smiles
One of the greatest perks of my job is the opportunity to establish and build genuine connections with the team and our patients. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of meeting and helping many members of our community improve their smiles while working closely with some incredible dental assistants, specialists, front office staff, and other team members. It’s always a treat when someone decides to stick with us for the long haul, whether it’s a patient who wants nothing more than a healthy smile or a team member who wants to grow in their role and provide excellent care to the community. Not many have been with me since the beginning, but that’s simply because there are very few people out there like our hygiene coordinator, Tabitha. When Tabitha joined our team back in 1999, she wasn’t trying to fulfill a lifelong passion for working in dentistry or overcoming a childhood fear of the dentist. She just wanted to find her way to help people improve their health and self-confidence. This led her to consider a position as a dental assistant. She worked at another practice before she started to hear good things about my team and
me, thanks to some of her friends who worked at our office. Within a few days of working together, we knew it was a great fit. The 27 years we’ve spent working together prove it! Throughout her time at our office, Tabitha worked diligently to help patients achieve their dream smiles while building strong friendships with them. She loves helping people overcome their fears of the dentist. Tabitha can tell you success stories of people who used to be afraid or nervous to come into our office, but now, they don’t struggle with fear and actually look forward to their appointments. As our practice grew and new opportunities became available, Tabitha began to explore the idea of transitioning from assisting and learning more about other roles. She wanted to see the full dynamic of dentistry, which eventually led her to her current position as our hygiene coordinator. She’s always willing to work with our patients to ensure they can schedule an appointment at a time that accommodates their lives and needs. She never fails to provide information when questions arise and is always understanding when life circumstances
occur that require our patients to move their hygiene appointments.
If you’ve been a regular patient of our office, you’re probably already familiar with Tabitha. However, you may have noticed that she doesn’t spend as much time near the front desk as she used to. You can rest assured knowing she is still here and helping out in any way she can. As our practice has grown, she has put more focus on ensuring the hygiene schedule stays full and prides herself on ensuring patients and hygienists have everything they need. To do this best, she’s started working elsewhere in the office. However, you can still ask for her if you want to say hello or have any questions! Those who visit our office hoping to see Tabitha when she’s not in shouldn’t worry. She’s likely just spending time with her seven grandchildren, playing board games, Uno, or basketball. Tabitha has been an absolute joy to work with for the past 27 years. Here’s hoping the next 27 are just as enjoyable! -Dr. Adams

Fun Valentine Adventures for the Whole Family CRAFTY CUPIDS
Love is in the air, and it’s not just for couples. Although Valentine’s Day often makes us think of romance and candlelit dinner dates, it can also be a wonderful time to celebrate with your family. Creating new holiday traditions with your little ones turns Cupid’s big day into an opportunity to show your family how much you care and teaches why expressing your feelings to loved ones matters. From special outings together to sharing homemade cards, get ready to create lasting memories that show why family connection is sweeter than a box of chocolates. HEARTFELT ADVENTURES You can take the traditional Valentine’s Day date and turn it into a special outing for your family. Avoid the dinner rush and enjoy breakfast or lunch at a favorite restaurant together. If you want to make it cozier and more affordable, consider preparing a meal together at home. You can even add a touch of ambiance with heart-shaped placemats and candles. Alternatively,
you could all go to a movie, visit a museum, or set up a movie night at home with fun snacks. CARING CRAFTS Bring out your little Cupid’s creativity by making holiday crafts to share. Instead of purchasing Valentine cards, use construction paper, glitter, and markers to create homemade options. Encourage them to make them meaningful and personalized with
handwritten messages or favorite family photos. You could also write appreciation notes for teachers or friends. Capture the moment by setting up a family photo shoot, complete with planned outfits and a heart-shaped backdrop. HEARTS IN PLAY Get everyone’s hearts in motion with fun games that play off Valentine’s Day themes. You can create a scavenger hunt where the whole family has to search for clues or find gifts. This is a fun way to get everyone engaged, and you can offer prizes like candy hearts or stuffed animals to the winners. Spend the night playing family favorites, and give each person a turn to pick an activity. It could be a beloved card game, a heart puzzle, charades, or even playing catch. This Valentine’s Day, make sure to spread the love around and point Cupid’s arrow at the people who genuinely have your heart.
“This office is fantastic! All staff were very friendly and the space was very clean! Yadira at the front desk was very polite, she also gave me a tour of the building! My hygienist, Angie, is the best! She was very personable, professional, knowledgeable and helpful! She’s honestly spectacular and eased my normal “dentist anxiety” quickly! The chair had heat and massaged! Air purifiers in every room! Dr. Adams was also wonderful! I will certainly be coming here for years to come! I would recommend! They also offer an in-house “insurance” of sorts to help if you don’t have your own dental insurance!” –ASHLAN S. “I had a fantastic visit at Caring Modern Dentistry. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming from the front desk staff, to the dental hygienist (Shelley), to Dr. Adams himself. I appreciate how Shelley explained my X-rays to me and discussed issues to be mindful of in the future.” –LANE S. OUR PATIENTS SAY IT BEST!

Great Teeth Mean Nothing Without Healthy Gums
When people think about visiting the dentist or improving their oral health, many believe it is entirely focused on teeth. You always hear people talk about wanting a straighter, healthier, or whiter smile, but it’s important to remember that your teeth are only one part of the dental equation. Your gums are an equally important part of your dental health and require some care and attention, too. Imagine that your mouth is a house. The teeth act as the exterior. It’s what people admire when they walk by, providing a warm welcome to everyone. You probably put a lot of work and effort into ensuring your house has curb appeal, just like your teeth. In this scenario, your gums would be equivalent to the foundation of the house. They
keep everything in place, but after years of abuse and neglect, the foundation can crumble, leaving the house lopsided if it’s even standing at all. If the foundation problems aren’t fixed, the structure (teeth) starts to suffer. Gum disease is a common problem in our country, with over 40% of Americans over the age of 30 experiencing some form of it. Common symptoms include persistent bad breath, pus between teeth and gums, loose teeth, changes in your bite, or red, swollen, tender, bleeding, or receding gums. If you notice any of these symptoms, please schedule an immediate hygiene appointment.
proactive by brushing at least twice a day and flossing every day. It’s also vital that you receive your regularly scheduled cleanings from a hygienist, as this goes a bit deeper than your usual brushing, and they can catch warning signs before they become problems. If you don’t treat your teeth once they start to develop problems, you can likely assume that you’ll lose them at some point, but what about your gums? When gum disease becomes severe, it can cause tooth and jawbone loss, changes in facial structures, and put you at a higher risk of heart disease and stroke. Don’t ignore your gums! It’s easy to put off flossing, but it will come back to haunt you!
The most effective treatment for gum disease is prevention. You need to be

The Reason Behind Fashion’s Most Infuriating Design Flaw
A Clothing Mystery Centuries in the Making Where Are the Pockets?
Some design choices for clothing can leave you scratching your head, wondering why certain decisions were made. You’ve probably noticed that many pieces of women’s wear do not have pockets, and when they do, they’re
large pockets were sewn directly into women’s clothing, but that trend didn’t last long. Eventually, someone (probably a man) determined that pockets ruined the female silhouette,
and they effectively disappeared from women’s garments. To the dismay of many women nationwide, big pockets (or any pockets) have remained incredibly rare on women’s clothing. WHAT ABOUT THE TINY POCKET? Men’s and women’s jeans both commonly have a small pocket within one of the front pockets. While you may keep spare change in it or a golf tee when out on the course, you may have wondered what the initial purpose was. When Levi Strauss & Co. first designed their iconic denim pants in the 1870s, they intentionally added an extra pocket to accommodate pocket watches. Even as pocket watches faded into obscurity, the pocket remained.
considerably smaller than those in men’s clothing. Let’s dive deeper into how this came to be.
WHERE ARE THE POCKETS? To understand the dilemma with
pockets in women’s clothing, one must go back to the late 1600s. At that time, women’s fashion consisted of long, bulky, flowing dresses. They had no built-in pockets, so women wore belts with attached pockets under their skirts that remained invisible to passersby. As fashion evolved and purses became popular, the need for discreet storage waned, and dresses became smaller. There was a brief period in the 18th century when
