Pass through another portal and find yourself engulfed by Asian-theme motifs that were transported around the world on dinnerware. From richly robed mandarins in flower- and pavilion-filled gardens to delicately painted deer to a school of brilliantly colored koi swimming across a large charger, dinnerwares in the “Chinese Taste” abound (figs. 3, 4, 5) . While many things have changed in our world, the love of nature-inspired motifs as a part of the dining experience continues to the present day. Come and be dazzled by this creative Winterthur installation that is sure to surprise.
Fig. 3. Platter with mandarin scenes of Chinese figures in outdoor settings. Gift of Daniel and Serga Nadler 2014.16.161.1
