For beef producers to remain profitable, beef cattle must perform at every point oproduction. At Dally Angus Ranch, our attention to profitability begins with the Angus female. She must excel in the convenience traits that cannot be measured by an EPD – things like udder quality, fertility, fleshing ability, functionality, sound- ness, and mothering instinct. These traits help keep input costs (labor/feed) low. Our cows go to work for us and are continually being tested in a real-world, commercial environment. It isn’t enough for our Angus females to be “convenient.” Their calves must perform, as well. In order for cow-calf operators to be profitable, we must have calves that grow with the ability to capture premiums from high quality carcasses. We feed out our own commercial calves and obtain carcass data, further discovering how Dally Angus Ranch genetics perform from birth through harvest. Bottomline?
