Jean-Marc Lalonde’s territory. Lalonde noted that Zanth has kept him apprised of the situation and he agreed that the street through that neighbourhood needs «major changes.» Both Lalonde andMayor Desjardins told the delegation that they will check with the city’s bylaw department about what may be possible to deal with the traffic concerns.

The west end of Laurier Street just past the Laporte Boulevard intersection narrows from four lanes to two lanes as it passes by Le Jardin Belle Rive seniors retirement appartements and the Place des Pionniers condominium complex. Representatives for tenants on both sides of the street want the city to deal with concerns about speeding drivers and heavy traffic banging in and out of the potholes.

rhood knows it even if the driver is trying to be careful about his speed. «A lot of trucks go by and when they do, you know it,» Lebeau said. «You actually get a little tremor. I’ve actually had to straighten my pictures every once in awhile.» The other concern is the traffic speed. Lebeau noted that some of the residents at the retirement home have mobility issues and crossing Laurier Street near their home can be risky at times with some drivers. «Some cars, I don’t think they (drivers) even observe the speed limit,» Lebeau said. «We have all these concerns. There is an urgent need to repair this (section of the) road.» Jean-Claude Cleroux, president of the Place des Pionniers condo board, also noted that there should be amarked crosswalk for that section of road to serve as a further war- ning to drivers that they need to slow down and pay attention to the pedestrian traffic. There was discussion among committee members about warning signs. So residents on both sides of the west end of Laurier Street hope that having two of the new members of the new council on their side will double their chances of seeing a couple of their traffic concerns solved. A delegation representing the tenants of Le Jardin Belle Rive seniors retirement facility and the Place des Pionniers condo- miniumgroup got a little bit more than they might have hoped following a presentation to the city’s infrastructure committee on March 26. They got a promise from Mayor Guy Desjardins for some kind of action from the city to deal with their concerns. «We’ll definitely look into it,»Mayor Des- jardins told the group. Delegation spokesman Ray Lebeau explained to the committee that the main concerns for both groups was the speed limit for the section of Laurier Street going past the two appartment complexes and the condition of the road where heavy traffic was concerned. Caron Street open house Homeowners in the Caron Street neighbourhood and other interested individuals should get a chance soon to learn the latest about plans for the current extension and upgrading program underway for the street and also provide their own feedback on future progress for the work. Clarence-Rockland council’s infrastructure committee has directed city administration to schedule a public information meeting this spring as soon as possible. The infrastructure and engineering department already posts updates on the city website about the Caron Street extension project but committee chairman, Coun. Yvon Simoneau, indicated a public information meeting would be better and show more consideration for area residents. – Gregg Chamberlain
