A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 7
During tutor time this week Year 7 learned about Hanukkah and Tu B’Shevat, one of the four Jewish new years (Rosh Hashanahs). Tu B’Shevat fell on Wednesday this week, it is the Jewish ‘New Year for Trees’ when Jews often eat fruits associated with the Holy Land, especially the ones mentioned in the Torah, while others may plant trees. We are encouraging students to donate no longer worn clothes for the Collection 4 Clothing initiative. If your child has any donations they can bring them into school where there is a collection box in reception. This will take place until Thursday 13 February. Rose B, 7FLY entered her short story about dancing, ‘A Night Out in Russia’, into the Arts Richmond Young Writers’ Festival and has been shortlisted. She will attend the Festival on Sunday 23 of March where they will announce the results and hold an awards ceremony. Good Luck Rose! Well done to the following three tutor groups who are top of the Year 7 Leaderboard: 1st 7PF0, 2nd 7PCO 3rd 7SON. And a further well done to those with the most epraise points: 1st: Mia B, 7PFO, Equal 2nd: Marianne M & Emma C, both 7PCO and equal 3rd: Lily K-J & Dominique P, also both 7PCO. The Year 7 Basketball team will start to play their first matches over the coming weeks. I look forward to sharing their results. Well done to all those students who attend clubs and practices this week, keep it up.
Have a good week!

BOOK OF THE MONTH
‘My name is Mina’ by David Almond
In the form of a journal, this book is a prequel for the book Skellig, and focuses on the character Mina before she has met Michael and Skellig. It focuses on her troubles with school and family and shines a light on her creativity. It is a fun, but serious book all at the same time and has many different forms of creativity like poetry and made-up stories. Overall, it’s a very personal and emotive tale, with lots of much needed honesty about school and the stories that are missed of kids who struggle in school. - Isabelle H, Y11
