Trends, Projections (CONT’D FROM PAGE 37)
The design world was all about simplicity in 2024. Clean lines, straightforward messaging, and functional features like resealable packs ruled the day. Personalization—like limited-edition designs—was also a hotly contested trend, especially for niche audiences.
Fortis projects that minimalism is here to stay for 2025 but advancements in inks and unique packaging textures will also lead to some brands making headways with bold designs. Flexible packaging and lightweight materials were strong in 2024, especially for snacks, beverages, and condiments. Compostable films and paper-based options gained traction, too. The new year will see growth in next-level materials like edible packaging and water-soluble films. Mono-ma- terial solutions—which are easier to recycle—are also set to grow in popularity. In 2024, vacuum skin packs and modified atmosphere packaging were popular for keeping products fresh. In 2025, active packaging with antimicrobial tech could be the next big thing. Sustainable pouches with resealable features dominat- ed in 2024. For 2025, tamper-evident and smart labels that verify authenticity could become more dominant.
APC’s decision to expand its digital print capability was based on the flexible packaging markets gradual shift from volume production to short run and on-demand printing. APC also has digital printing in its Story City, Iowa Cen- ter of Excellence, along with laminating, coating, pouching and bag making capabilities. Over the years, APC’s legacy has spanned rotogravure and flexographic printing.
