AWT Launches Portfolio Of Sustainable Label Materials AWT Labels & Packaging, Inc. (AWT) has unveiled a selection of sustainable label and packaging materials designed to meet the increasing call for ‘earth-friendly’ packaging options by AWT customers and consumers. AWT’s ‘Terrene’ portfolio of materials provide a host of sustainable options that are recyclable, compostable and biodegradable, depending on the labeling or pack- aging goals of AWT clients. The launch comes after extensive research into sustainable material options which will perform in the marketplace and deliver on sustainability promises. Depending on sustainability goals and the final application for the package or label, AWT can offer material options that are composed of a high percentage of post-consumer recycled (PCR) content; recycle-ready; compostable; or biodegradable. Tropic Plastic & Packaging Acquires Fifth Comexi Press Tropic Plastic & Packaging, a South African flexible packaging producer, has acquired a Comexi F2 MB, the third within the last two years.This latest acquisition will be installed in the company’s Durban facilities. The relationship between the two companies dates
back to 2011 when Tropic Plastic & Packaging pur- chased its first Comexi machine, a Comexi FPLUS flex- ographic press. Following this purchase,Tropic Plastic & Packaging acquired a Comexi F2 MP and its last three acquisitions were the Comexi F2 MB. Entries For FPA 2020 Packaging Awards Now Open The Flexible Packaging Association (FPA) has an- nounced that the 2020 Flexible Packaging Achieve- ment Awards Call for Entries is now open. The dead- line for entries is Friday, October 25. The 2020 Call for Entries provides an overview of the Achievement Awards program, the competition rules, including eligibility requirements, entry fees, and com- plete instructions on how to enter the competition. Awards are given in the following categories: expand- ing the use of flexible packaging, technical innovation, sustainability, printing, shelf impact, and packaging excellence. All entries are judged by an independent panel of experts. The FPA has conducted the annual Flexible Packag- ing Achievement Awards Competition since 1956 to showcase the industry’s innovation and the advances that have changed packaging.
