AICC Annual Meeting To Examine Workplace Issues AICC,The Independent Packaging Association, is of- fering key HR training for U.S. and Canadian manufac- turing companies during the AICC 2019 Annual Meet- ing, September 16-18, at the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The two-day workshop features Christine V.Walters, JD, MAS, SHRM-SCP, SPHR, Sole Proprietor, FiveL and Michelle Henry, Partner, Borden Ladner Gervais (BLP) LLP, to speak on HR laws and regulations in the United States and Canada, respectively. Christine Walters has been engaged as an expert wit- ness for the defense,presented at conferences across the country, testified before U.S. Congressional and state leg- islative committees and federal administrative agencies. She has been interviewed and quoted in a variety of media, including television, radio, and print media. Her first book From Hello to Goodbye: Proactive Tips for Maintaining Positive Employee Relations was one of the publisher’s (SHRM) “Great 8” best-sellers in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014. Employee Issues Michelle Henry is a partner in the Labour and Em- ployment Group in the BLG Toronto office. She advis- es employers on various employment-related matters, such as workplace restructuring, workplace investi- gations, employment contracts, employee termina- tions, discipline, workers’ compensation, occupational health and safety matters,workplace violence, employ- ment standards, and human rights. Henry represents employers in employment-related litigation, including wrongful dismissals, constructive dismissals, and in- junctions proceedings. The first session“Got Pot? Marijuana in theWorkplace & SubstanceTesting,”will address the legal trends relat- ed to marijuana legalization; decriminalization: and le- gal use of medically prescribed marijuana.The impact on the workplace and the employers’ related policies, practices, and programs will also be discussed. “Top 10 Trends Impacting Employee Practices,” the second session, provides an overview of ten of the most common and current legislative proposals im- pacting employment policies, practices and proce- dures, including advocacy tips for developing your business case and helping to shape these important policy issues. The workshops are being offered during the Annual Meeting, which will feature a three-day series of gen- eral sessions, workshops, plant tours, and networking and social events.The meeting will also showcase the biennial Independent Package Design Competition.
