DONATIONS IN ACTION Lactation Pod installed at Discoveries AACPL Branch Manager, Rachel Myers strives to ensure Discoveries: The Library at the Mall is a location that serves everyone. Walking past this bustling, popular branch you see people of all ages spending time and making the library their own. The staff regularly hosts programs for babies, kids and families.

The branch also has a pantry where much-needed baby and hygiene supplies are distributed for free. Always with an eye for reaching the needs of the community they serve, Rachel decided to look for a way to be more welcoming for breastfeeding parents who want to spend time in the library with their children. Families have often asked to use the vacant programming room to have a private spot to nurse and not leave the branch. Since that space is not always available and there isn’t one in the mall to suffice, Rachel decided to apply for a $31,500 grant from the Library Foundation to purchase a Mamava nursing pod. Thanks to donors like you, families have a private and comfortable place to nurse their babies inside the branch. The lactation pod is a welcome addition to the multitude of resources offered at the library that provides a quiet, safe space for families to meet this important need. Stay tuned for more exciting news on the expansion of this library. Elementary School Celebrates Reading Milestone Success at Severna Park Library Members of Severna Park Elementary’s book club wanted to celebrate reaching their reading goals by visiting the library. The branch staff knew exactly what would elicit teamwork and fun — an art roleplay game where students create dinosaurs driving cars. All 20 students, in teams of four, created a unique dinosaur living in different natural landmarks, with points of interest and roads on a shared posterboard. After that, they did what any good driver would do — closed their eyes and navigated their map by GPS (i.e., their friends). Once everyone had a turn, they shared about their dinosaur’s adventures through town. It was full of art, laughter and dinosaurs that only eat ketchup. What a perfect way to celebrate reading. Programs like these are supported by generous community donations, thank you!
