V An Antidote for Christian Science During the month just closed we have travelled nearly seven hundred miles, visited no less than forty-seven leases in Kern County, preached the Word y s fifteen t i m e s , WORK IN THE j f t a u g h t eleven OIK FIELDS ftci Bible study class- Frank J. Shelley es, visited seven Sunday Schools, teaching the lesson and after the school, preaching the Gospel. On the oil leases, the Word has been given by personal testimony, the Gos pel of John, Gospel tracts and by song. A hearty welcome was given us at the great stations of the Standard Oil Com pany, especially at Oildale where the large tank farm is located and where gasoline is manufactured. The men are always glad to see us here and we are usually entertained by the Superin tendent. At Lost Hills we were given permission to use the beautiful recrea tion hall, where we had about fifty at our last evening meeting. There are simply hundreds and hundreds of men here, and what a need there is for faith ful ministry. There is a faithful school teacher here who keeps the Sunday School going, and after the Gospel preaching we go out on the street and preach the Word from our Ford car. On our last visit we caught a backslider through the street meeting. None of the Christians came to help, yet we felt that God gave great liberty in present ing the Gospel to lost men and felt Very happy over the service. The Gospel is also preached from the car in front of the saloons and has been accorded a very respectful hearing. Our work goes on at Reward, Bellridge and many other places.

By visiting the houses one soon finds out the condition of things, as was dem onstrated on a certain lease where most of the houses visited were occupied by Christian Scientists, the ' Superintend ent’s wife being a leader. We left “ My Experience in Christian Science’'’ at nearly every house. It was a hard place in which to work, but we made it a mat ter of prayer and three weeks ago the Superintendent was changed to another place and the new Superintendent allowed us to put up a “ Truth” tract box and said we might use the dining hall for a meeting. So much effort has been put forth by the Christian Science cult that we felt something should be done to combat this false system, and in answer to prayer God has provided us with twenty of these “ Truth” track boxes, eighteen of which have already been put up on the various leases where they are doing business for the Lord, Most of them were placed outside of the boarding houses where1the men meet three times a day. At such a time as this one can hear the voice of the Lord saying, “ Comfort ye, my people.” O, for grace to go forth, bearing the precious seed, water ing it with tears, and rejoicing in the hope of the glory of God and for the everlasting consolation and good hope through grace that our God has given to His beloved people.
