and I have sought thee sorrow ing. (49) And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought* me? W ist ye not that I *must be about my Father’s business! (50) And they understood not. the saying which he spake unto them. And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was sub­ ject unto them; but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart. (52) And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God arid man. (2 Pet. 1:5) And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith, virtue; and to virtue, kn ow l­ edge (6") and to knowledge, temper­ ance; and to temperance, patience: and to patience, godliness; (7) and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, charity. (8) For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren, nor unfruitful in the know ledge o f our Lord Jesus Christ. As did any Jewish boy, He attended the school at Nazareth, for it seems almost a certainty that there was a school at Nazareth as there was in hundreds of towns in Palestine. The Old Testament would be His text-book» beginning with the first nine chapters of Leviticus. His teacher would be a God fearing, con­ scientious married man. What a joy to Him to study His Father’s Word. What a treat, when twelve years of age, to sit in one of the big Bible classes in Sol­ omon’s porch of the Temple at Jeru­ salem, and listen to the most celebrated

(42) And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem, after the (custom of the feast. (43) And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem, and Joseph and his mother knew not of it. (44) But, they supposing him to have been in the company went a day’s journey and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance. (45) And when they found him not, "they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him. (46) And it came to pass that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both -hearing them and asking them questions. (47) And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and his answers. (48) And when they saw him, they were amazed; and his mother said unto him, Son, why has thou thus dealt with us? Behold, thy father He was a real human being. His body developed from babyhood to manhood. Plain, but wholesome LESSON fare; good air on the EXPOSITION hillside; exercise, and honest work in the car­ penter shop; all these ministered to His physical growth. He grew mentally. He had “ a reason­ able soul” as well as “ a true body.” He knew more at twenty than He did at ten, and more at thirty than at twenty. I. Our Lord’s Threefold Growth. Luke 2:42-52.
