Laser technology has come to play an integral role in many dental procedures. Over the past two decades, the technology has been greatly refined and recognized as a safe and effective tool in the dentist’s toolkit. Lasers have been primarily used in periodontal care, but they have many wider applications, including in cosmetic dentistry. A dentist may use dental lasers to speed up the tooth whitening process, which is useful for patients on a tight schedule. Dentists also use lasers to treat many of the following conditions. Gum disease. Lasers can be used to effectively remove inflamed gum tissue as part of the overall treatment for gum disease, as well as assisting in gum recontouring. Tooth decay. In some instances, lasers are used to remove tooth decay and ready the surface of the tooth for any necessary fillings. Infection. Lasers can remove harmful bacteria from the teeth and gums. This decreases risk of infection following certain procedures, such as root canals.

Wisdom teeth. For patients with wisdom teeth that have not fully erupted, lasers can clear gum tissue to expose the teeth for extraction. Biopsy. Lasers are often used to extract biopsy samples. The laser can remove a small amount of tissue, which can then be tested for cancer or other diseases. Dental lasers work by delivering an intense and refined beam of light to the surface of the teeth or gums. It can be used as a cutting tool, or it can be used to vaporize tissue, depending on the application. When it comes to whitening, the laser becomes a heat source and can make the teeth whitening agent more effective. In most cases, no local anesthesia is required and the patient feels no pain. Lasers are exceptionally accurate, safe, and even prevent bleeding. It’s high-tech dentistry at its finest.

THAI SPAGHETTI SQUASH With Peanut Sauce Ingredients • 1 medium spaghetti squash • Olive oil • Salt

Peanut sauce: • 1 (14-ounce) can coconut milk • ¾ cup unsweetened peanut butter • ¼ cup coconut sugar • 2 tablespoons soy sauce • 2 tablespoons white vinegar • 2 teaspoons sesame oil • 2 teaspoons red curry paste

• 1 garlic clove, minced • ¼ cup chopped parsley • 2 tablespoons crushed peanuts •

Instructions 1. Preheat oven to 350 F. Halve squash and scoop out seeds. 2. Drizzle inside of squash with olive oil and sprinkle with salt. Place squash on baking sheet and roast for 25 minutes. 3. Let cool. Using a fork, scrape out spaghetti squash strands. 4. Place sauce ingredients in saucepan and bring to boil over medium-high heat. Lower heat and simmer for 5 minutes, stirring constantly. 5. Heat skillet over medium heat. Add garlic, parsley, and 1/4 of the peanut sauce and combine. 6. Add spaghetti squash and crushed peanuts. Stir to combine until heated through, about 2 minutes. Once served, drizzle with more peanut sauce.
