“The coursework has pushed me to think more critically and make decisions using a more widespread understanding of reasoning,” explained Saxton. “I’ve also learned to look at patients more holistically and consider not just the acute issue, but the long-term impact on their health and quality of life. The mentorship from faculty has been encouraging and motivating.” By preparing skilled nurse practitioners to treat people when they are at their sickest, UIndy is helping address critical gaps in the healthcare workforce—ensuring that when lives are on the line, expert and compassionate care is close at hand. “I would absolutely recommend UIndy’s AGACNP program to other nurses or nursing students who are passionate about acute care,” said Saxton. “The program will be challenging, but it truly prepares you to move into the acute care nurse practitioner role with confidence. Nick Saxton joined the inaugural cohort of the AGACNP track to build upon his skills and experience as an acute care nurse. UIndy’s reputation for strong academics, supportive faculty, and flexible program format made it the perfect fit. “After working with acutely ill patients for several years, I wanted a program that would challenge me and prepare me to manage complex situations with greater autonomy,” said Saxton. “I also appreciated how the program focuses on both evidence-based practice and real-world application, which felt like the perfect balance for someone who wants to advance clinically while continuing to work.” Since starting the program in August, Saxton has already seen significant growth in the strength of his clinical skills and confidence.

The Biology and Chemistry departments offer courses intentionally designed to align with the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT), giving students a strong foundation for admission and success in medical school.
