A CURATED SELECTION OF GREAT CARDS
36. 1951 Bowman #305 WIllie Mays (HOF RC) - PSA VG 3 MINIMUM BID: $2,500
Few postwar vintage cards have risen in value more in recent years than the rookie card of Hall of Fame outfielder Willie Mays. Long languishing behind the rookie card of Mickey Mantle from the same issue, the Mays has begun to skyrocket, still outpaced by his Yankee counterpart but not as markedly as in past years. This example is a well-centered one, a collector- grade card with extremely strong eye appeal due to centering and color. A few surface indentations are visible upon close examination, and some print snow is evident in the black text box where Mays’ name appears, minor flaws given the grade and desirability of the card. Please note that this identical card was offered in our Summer, 2021 auction and is being offered here because Mr. Bill Orloff of San Pedro, CA decided not to honor his commitment and pay his bill.
38. 1956 Topps #30 Jackie Robinson (HOF - Grey Back) - PSA EX-MT 6 MINIMUM BID: $400
37. 1954 Topps #94 Ernie Banks (HOF RC) - BVG VG-EX 4 MINIMUM BID: $300
Clean, well-centered specimen, with light corner wear that might result in a slightly lesser grade by today’s strict standards. Surface is clean, with little visible wear, the color and image clarity quite strong. An exceptional card, one of the keys to the issue and certainly in high demand.
Midgrade example of Ernie Banks’ rookie card, graded VG-EX 4 by Beckett. Centered slightly high, the image itself is strong for the grade, though some wear at the corners, light wrinkling and some surface staining at the left edge suggests that a different grading company might not be quite as generous with the card. Still, an important card, one of the keys to the 1954 Topps issue.
