ARE YOU PREPARED FOR THE FUTURE?

As our client, there’s one thing you probably know for fact: When you take your last breath and leave this world, something of your estate is left over. But do you want to give this “something” to the federal government in the form of taxes, or do you want it to go to family members and your favorite charities? This is why you need to have an estate plan in place. You want to give your heirs peace of mind for the future. But the political climate is potentially changing. The wealthy are coming under attack from those wishing to take away, or make it more difficult for you to give, what you want to your heirs. Now, I’m not here to give political advice, but there are a few things we should keep in mind. Our country is over $23 trillion in debt, and at some point in the future, the debt must be paid. You’ve been fiscally responsible your whole life; if you hadn’t been, you wouldn’t have retirement dollars to enjoy today. You planned, and you had the foresight to act according to that plan (and adapt as things came up). We can’t say the same about our leaders. Without proper planning, many people in Washington want to take your dollars and put them toward the national debt. Most people haven’t heard about this because the people in charge already have a plan in place. They may set up a national referendum to go after 40% of your estate upon the passing of the last one named in the estate plan, such as you or your spouse. They will likely not call this an estate tax. Instead, they want to take this 40% after your passing but before your beneficiaries can

What can you do? First, start properly planning to make sure your assets go legally and ethically to who you want, when you want, and with as little tax implication as possible. Your advisory firm is on top of the ever-changing tax laws and regulations, which includes these potential efforts to reduce the national debt. This is one of the many reasons why we at Mattson Financial are introducing a new advisory fee platform. It’s designed to protect your money from creditors and predators and keep your hard-earned money where you want it. Look for more information about this new platform in your mail and email. We’re excited to continue serving our clients above and beyond their expectations. Together we can take advantage of what the market has to offer, while also being prepared for and protected from what may come in the future.

get a hold of your estate. This way, they don’t take anything away from your lifestyle, your beneficiaries can plan accordingly, and no one will be “harmed.” The problem is that the people who want to make this plan happen never had to give anything up to buy a new car. They never lived a life of “keeping up with the Joneses.” They are the Joneses. They don’t have the same perspective as the people this plan will affect the most. Many people have come to expect immediate gratification from many things in life. When I go through the drive-thru at McDonald’s, I do it because I expect it to be fast. If I have to wait five minutes for my order, I think, “How can this be? I’m at the drive-thru!” You didn’t amass your fortune overnight. There was no immediate gratification when it came to saving and investing. It took a lifetime to get where you are today. But now those people in charge want instant gratification when it comes to getting their hands on that hard-earned money.

Tackle Allergies This Spring

WITH THESE 3 STRATEGIES

Change immediately after spending time outdoors.

Spring has officially sprung. Grass is growing, flowers are blooming, and longer days are here again. And while the arrival of spring is a cause for celebration, for outdoor enthusiasts who suffer from seasonal allergies, the season is bittersweet. For many, this time of the year is characterized by stuffy noses, burning eyes, and sneezing. But according to WebMD, even severe allergy sufferers can enjoy the outdoors without worrying about allergies by taking the following precautions.

If you suffer from seasonal allergies but still love to exercise outdoors, build a habit of showering and changing immediately after coming back inside. While you were out crushing that 30-mile bike ride, pollen was slowly accumulating in your hair and on your clothes. And while 30 minutes of outdoor exercise will, according to WebMD, completely coat your nasal membrane with allergens, showering and laundering your clothing will limit your exposure while indoors.

Watch pollen counts.

Medicate, medicate, medicate.

You can usually find information about local pollen levels on the internet or in your local newspaper. If pollen counts are through the roof, consider hitting the indoor gym instead of running outside. In general, pollen counts are highest on warm and breezy mornings and lowest when it is cool and rainy. Plan your outdoor pursuits accordingly.

Depending on the severity of your allergies, medication, not prevention, will likely provide the best relief available. Every person is different, so ask your doctor about the best medicine for you, and make sure you understand how you’re supposed to use it before dismissing its efficacy. Some allergy medicines can take as long as three weeks to reach their full effectiveness.

THE BENEFITS OF MINIMALISM A Perfect Lifestyle for Seniors As we get older, we tend to hang on to mementos that brought some type of meaning to our lives, even after time has diminished their value. Though we may be emotionally attached, this clutter can eventually overwhelm us, especially as seniors. If you find yourself drowning in items you no longer need or want, consider a minimalist lifestyle to free up your space — and your mind.

on to something bigger. Soon, you’ll find yourself making steady and rewarding progress throughout the rest of your home.

In the process, pay attention to what you want to keep. Carefully select which objects mean the most to you and which ones are still useful. These are the belongings you should surround yourself with.

Minimalism

Before taking on a minimalist lifestyle, it’s important to understand what it entails. When someone hears the word “minimalism,” they might think it means getting rid of their possessions one by one, but that’s not entirely true. Instead, minimalist living focuses on having less clutter in our lives but still keeping the things we truly value and enjoy. The idea is to get rid of things we no longer use or need.

The Benefit of Minimalism

Minimalism will help you feel more comfortable in your home and open up other possibilities. You will have more room to invite guests and family over, and you’ll have a sense of space and freedom. Additionally, this lifestyle can also help with your finances. You’ll be less tempted to buy what you don’t need, and you may even rearrange spending priorities or downsize your living space (less rent!). If you surround yourself with meaningful and useful items, you will feel more at peace. Ultimately, minimalism encourages us to free ourselves from the many things that own us as much as we own them. Don’t allow accumulated objects to clutter up your home and life. Take the leap and start living a carefree, minimalist lifestyle.

Minimalist Living

To embark on a minimalist lifestyle, focus more on the present and consider the value your personal belongings have in your life now. Sorting through hundreds of items with thousands of memories is a daunting task, so it is best to start by removing things that might not require emotional or physical strain, like old magazines, broken items, or clutter in the junk drawer. Once you’ve taken this first step, move

time, use a freshening spray like Downy’s Wrinkle Releaser. The spray will eliminate odors and can give your clothes a flat-ironed look.

Ask any seasoned traveler and they’ll tell you the same thing: Having some spare room in your suitcase never hurts. People tend to shop for new clothes or souvenirs while traveling, and these purchases can take up space fast. However, with longer vacations, it can be difficult to limit how many clothes you’re bringing. How do you keep a smaller wardrobe fresh and comfortable while also looking your best? Try using some of these travel wardrobe tips.

Speaking of clothes, the best outfits are the ones you feel confident in. Consider getting your favorite items tailored and fitted before your trip, and plan multiple outfits that can be reorganized into unique combinations. From classic choices, like jeans, to more unique choices, like print shirts and layered jackets, there are lots of distinct items you

can mix and match. Also remember to bring both formal and casual options, just in case you want to dress up for a night out. Lastly, accessories can breathe new life into an existing outfit. Scarves, belts, jewelry, bags, and hats can add a pop of color or elegance while taking

Packing light isn’t necessarily about packing less; it’s about addressing your needs in the healthiest,

least physically demanding way. For example, your feet contain about 250,000 sweat glands, so clean socks are essential for preventing smelly feet and shoes. Likewise, make sure you have enough undergarments for

the whole trip unless you know you’ll have access to a washing machine. If you do have to wear an article of clothing a second
