The 46 th annual Crysler Winter Carnival organizing committee couldn’t have asked for better weather on carnival weekend. The event kicked off Wednesday, February 15 with Bingo and a 50/50 draw. Thursday, The Broken Knuckles bar was the site of a wing night and crib tournament, and an adult dart night was held at the Crysler Community Centre. Friday evening both the community dinner and chili contest were very well attended, said organizer, Martine Quesnel, as was the teens rock and skate with a DJ at the rink. Saturday things got off to a rollicking start. Fab the Magician entertained, causing lots of amazement and laughter. A hot-dog lunch followed, then afternoon at the movies, outdoor skating and hot chocolate. Throughout Saturday and Sunday a historical rally tested participants’ knowledge on the history and businesses of Crysler. Claire and Jasmine Breton wrote up a list of 30 questions, asking things like, “What dates were the three local churches founded? What is the meaning of the word Waikato from our local pizzeria? What is the name of the Crysler dam and what year was it built?” Participants had to roam the town to find the answers. Yuk Yuk’s and DJ were the Saturday night entertainment. Sunday started with brunch from the Volunteer Firefighters and Knights of Columbus, followed a card tournament, visit from an OPP cruiser, skating, hot chocolate, tug of war, and entertaining scaffold races. A final hockey game was played in the afternoon, Louis Seguin entertained, followed by spaghetti supper and spectacular closing ceremonies. All events were well-attended. A big bonfire and over $2000 worth of fireworks finished the highly successful weekend.

The race is on! The outdoor rink was popular all weekend at the Crysler Carnival, with some scheduled events and some public skating on excellent ice. Weather was perfect for winter activities with sunshine and temperatures just below zero.
