(continued from page 13) “Here, it’s humanity first. You can have all the diplomas you want, if you have no heart, it won’t work.’’ A family history... The first prize won by Normand Ravary dates back to the time of his adolescence, for a piece of furniture he made at school. “My godfather (Roland Ravary) was a cabinetmaker. I prob- ably take after him.” Also, his son, Sébastien, seems to follow in his father’s footsteps. “It’s my portrait,” he says, proudly recounting how he was surprised to note that at the age of eight, his son had taken the initiative to “borrow” some wood to make a chair. Without a plan, the young boy had designed, produced and painted this piece of furniture in a few hours. “I couldn’t punish him.” The chair is now proudly displayed at McGill Manor. He has equally good stories to tell about Kevin who, as a boy, followed him everywhere on the McGill Manor job sites. The eldest also observed his father well and

took every opportunity to imitate him like an adult. While he fell in a bucket of paint - his father had laid a tile as a cover and the young boy had climbed up to look out the window - he was not overcome by the mishap. After getting out of this sticky situation, he coated himself with cement powder, as his father tried to remove paint. He did not get scolded. At the end of the day, Normand Ravary remains a tender loving person when it comes to his family; especially when he realizes that his sons are looking to show him what they are capable of. Normand Ravary was married in 1994 to Francine Lemay, and has two sons, Kevin, who will turn 16 in June and Sébastien who is now 12 years old. McGill Manor also contains some very dear memories souvenirs for its owner, who reports celebrating his wedding at the time of the Holiday Motel. In the chapel, benches from the parish of St-Ludger of Calu- met, where he and his wife took their vows, can also be found. And a sign of destiny, who knows? It is also in this former hospital that he was born.

“Dear Normand, Congratulations on receiving the 2009 Solidarity Trophy. It is a great honour that warrants being highlighted. I want to express my best wishes, Normand.” —MP Pierre Lemieux Recognition from the community In 2009, the Hawkesbury Citizens Association presented to Normand Ravary the Solidarity Trophy, recognizing his exceptional contributions to the town. For the entrepreneur, the favourable comments made on this occasion were truly heart-warming.
