RUSSELL | Brianna Jennett-McNeill of Russell has received the official notice she was hoping for—confirmation she has a spot on the Team Canada Paralympic Paraswimming team par- ticipating in the London 2012 Paralympics in August. Jennett-McNeill made the qualifying times in a recent competition in Montreal, but qualifying does not mean competing, and she has been anxiously waiting for official word. She said she found out for sure when a reporter came to her team’s practice at the pool where she trains in Gatineau. Two of her teammates have also been chosen. She said,“The whole team went crazy.” She is ranked in the world’s top ten women’s freestyle paraswimmers for her disability level, which is least disabled. She started swimming seriously on her coach’s advice in 2008, went to her first national competition in 2009, then went to Worlds. She says,“It all went so fast.” She leaves mid-August for a two-week train- ing camp in Italy, has three days off then goes to London. The games will be held from August 29 to September 9.
