with Hitachi’s renowned fibre optic division, Opnext Japan Inc., in Yokohama. His PhD work at Tyndall National Institute led to record- breaking experimental demonstrations in high-capacity fibre-to-the-home networks. He has made significant contributions to multiple EU-funded projects focused on optical network architectures, photonic integrated circuits, and digital signal processing. Currently a Senior Staff Researcher with the Photonics Systems Group at Tyndall National Institute, his research now focuses on machine learning-based signal processing for high-speed optical links and fibre sensing. Dr. Antony holds five patents and has authored over 70 publications.
decade of professional experience in the UK and in Germany, she has a proven track record in developing innovative optical sensors and metrology solutions for the medical, automotive, and manufacturing industries. Laura received her PhD in physics from University College Cork, awarded for her work investigating the applications of Hollow Core Photonic Crystal Fibers at the Tyndall National Institute in Ireland, for which she was granted an IRCSET scholarship. She has authored several scientific papers and holds patents in optical sensors and metrology.
Daniel Jalo Daniel Jaló earned his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Physics Engineering from the University of Aveiro, Portugal. Since joining Lumentum's R&D Photonic Integrated Chip team

Robert Emmerich Rob was born in 1982 in Meiningen, Germany. He received the B.Eng. degree in Telecommunications Engineering from the University of Applied Sciences HTW-Berlin,
in 2017, he has been primarily involved in the modelling, designing, and testing of state-of-the- art high-speed receiver and modulator InP chips, developed for the coherent telecommunication application space. His contributions have resulted in enhanced overall performance of these devices and increased on-chip functionality, with a particular focus on achieving data rates in excess of 200Gbd. These achievements have not only pushed the technological boundaries of InP chips but also strengthened the commercial success and leadership position of Lumentum within the industry.
Research Center for Photonic Networks
and Technologies created in Pisa in 2001 by Sant’Anna School and CNIT (National Inter- University Consortium for Telecommunications), where currently she is director of the CNIT National Laboratory on Photonic Networks and Technologies-PNTLab. From 2020 to 2021 she has also been technical responsible of the Integrated Photonic Technologies Center-INPHOTEC, a technology center for the fabrication and packaging of integrated photonic circuits. She is leader of the “digital & microwave photonics” area of the Sant'Anna School. Antonella Bogoni dedicated her research activity to photonics technologies for optical communication and sensing. She collaborated with the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles where she worked in 2008 and from 2009 to 2010 as winner of a “Fulbright” scholarship. Up to now Antonella Bogoni got more than 50 national and international project grants, and 9 Best Paper awards. She is co/ author of 55 patents, 2 books, 9 chapters and more than 200 papers on the main scientific international journals. She is Deputy Editor for Optics Letters and she is involved in the technical and organizing committee of several international conferences. She is General chair of the International Topical Meeting on Microwave photonics (MWP) 2021,and 2024, of Photonics Switching and Computing (PSC) 2023, and of The European Conference on Optical Communications (ECOC) 2027.
Berlin, Germany, in 2013 and the M.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from the Technische Universität Berlin, Berlin, Germany, in 2015. Since 2016, he has been a researcher at the Fraunhofer Institute for Telecommunications, Heinrich Hertz Institute, Berlin. His research interests include the application of multiband transmission systems with higher-order modulation and broadband digital coherent receivers and transmitters, where he is working towards the Ph.D. degree.
