Turning Friendship Into a Career: Emma Paskett’s Journey Turning Friendship Into a Career: Emma Paskett’s Journey

The Moment Magazine 4

Emma Paskett first became involved in Friendship Circle for her bat mitzvah project. She quickly realized that volunteering was more than just a one time experience — it became something she genuinely looked forward to every week. “I really loved the sense of community and connection I felt there,” Emma says. From the start, she had a natural way of connecting with participants, whether it was helping a child complete a craft project, patiently guiding them through a new skill, or simply listening when they needed to talk. “Volunteering at FC helped me realize that I wanted to work with kids as a career. “ Over time, Emma became known for her dedication and care. Families and participants alike looked forward to seeing her, and staff noticed her ability to lead with patience and empathy, knowing when to step in and when to let a participant explore on their own. Emma is now finishing her psychology degree, and her time at Friendship Circle has helped shape her career path. “Volunteering at FC helped me realize that I wanted to work with kids as a career,” she says. “The time I spent with my buddies showed me how meaningful that connection can be and shaped the direction I’m pursuing today.” When a position opened on the staff team, Emma seized the opportunity. She now plans programs, mentors new volunteers, and continues to contribute her energy and heart to Friendship Circle. “When I started college, I really missed FC and my buddies,” Emma shares. “I’m grateful to have that community back in my life and to now help contribute on the programming.” For Emma, friendship means showing up for people with empathy, consistency, and care. “It’s about creating a space where both people feel supported and valued for who they are,” she says. It is about being present, listening deeply, and celebrating small successes along the way. Emma believes that even simple acts of kindness can create lasting impact, and she strives to model that in every interaction. Her journey reflects a philosophy that caring consistently for others can build strong communities and shape meaningful lives. Friendship for her is both a guiding principle and a source of joy, and it continues to influence the work she does every day.

IT’S COOL TO BE KIND X2 DEC 8-11, 2025

From December 8-11, Friendship Circle is launching It’s Cool to Be Kind, our year-end campaign inviting every person in our community to do just one act of kindness. That act could be making a gift, sharing our message, or encouraging a friend to get involved. Why one act? Because one act can brighten a day, start a friendship, or change a life. Every dollar raised will be matched! Your kindness fuels the full circle of Friendship Circle programs—Sunday Circle, Friends@Home, life-skills This December, we’re turning kindness into a movement!

outings, teen wellness through UMatter, and inclusive, therapeutic experiences that help youth of all abilities feel seen, supported, and connected. This year, we’re grateful to share that all gifts will be doubled through our matching pool, making every act of kindness go twice as far.

Together, they are helping ensure every participant feels supported and included while expanding the reach and impact of our programs. Expanding Programs and Spaces Our Art and STEM Room has become a vibrant hub for creativity and innovation, allowing participants to explore technology, art, and hands-on learning in a supportive environment. Volunteer Growth and Engagement We welcomed over 60 new volunteers this season, a 15 percent increase over last year. Our Sunday Circle program continues to thrive, with participants engaging in interactive games, crafts, and group activities designed to foster social skills and build confidence. Volunteers consistently go above and beyond, mentoring participants, helping them navigate challenges, and creating a welcoming and supportive environment. They are also actively helping out at TYA, U Matter, community outings, summer camp prep, and special events, bringing joy and support to participants across programs. Community Highlights The season kicked off with over 100 attendees, a 50 percent increase from previous events. Sunday Circle has seen steady growth, with more participants joining each week and enjoying both structured activities and casual social time. Beyond Sunday Circle, our volunteers are actively helping out at TYA, U Matter, community outings, summer camp prep, and special events, bringing joy and support to participants across programs. Our summer camp promises even more opportunities for friendship, skill-building, and hands-on learning experiences in a fun and inclusive setting. Celebrating Together As always, we are grateful to our volunteers, staff, and supporters who make our work possible. Leave a Legacy That Reflects Your Values! Leave a Legacy That Reflects Your Values!

Legacy giving, also known as planned giving, is a powerful way to support the causes you care about—while also honoring your personal, financial, and family goals. While some planned gifts are made in cash, many donors choose to give through assets like stocks, real estate, art, or business interests. The possibilities are as unique as your legacy. The most common planned gift is a bequest in your will, but other popular options include charitable trusts and gift annuities. Whether you're planning for the future or honoring a lifetime of generosity, we're here to help. Let’s talk about how you can make a lasting impact.
