The morphology and zoning are based on the hierarchy and functionality of relations within the program. The old building was reserved for various social, sporting and cultural activities, taking advantage of spaces generous in size and height. On the other hand, a volume that follows the geometry of the block and the existing architecture, organizes the general program and its order with criteria for open planning with maximum flexibility, efficiency and functionality. The Commander in Chief headquarters building is placed on the key spot of the complex in the middle of the block while presiding over the Courtyard of Honour and the Access Esplanade. The Commander in Chief headquarters are housed in a unique building, severe and different from the rest. It hangs suspended over the main hall as an invitation to enter. The Access Esplanade reflects the monumentality and grandeur of the military institution. Jointly configured by the recovered southern façade of the War Arsenals, the contemporary new Army Headquarters building and the prominence of the Commander in Chief building indicating the entrance, the urban esplanade opens onto Ercilla square and O'Higgins Park. The project is tied to the existing building; it integrates and communicates with its spaces and volumes. It displays in its materials and design the sobriety and rigor of the Chilean Army, which evolves while remaining true to its tradition and history and simultaneously steps into the forefront and modernity of the XXI century.
