El Museo y la ciudad El proyecto construye virtualmente los 12,6 m permitidos por la normativa en la totalidad del sitio, solucionando la elevación principal hacia la Alameda Manuel Antonio Matta con una fachada continua. Si bien hoy no está constituida la fachada continua en esta cuadra, se considera fundamental que este Museo de carácter estatal y público mantenga la fachada continua y marque la pauta para futuras construcciones. Con ello se podrá consolidar la calidad de este barrio tradicional de Copiapó y la relevancia del vacío urbano de la rambla de la Alameda. La fachada continua es construida por dos estratos materiales. Un primer piso zócalo de 4,5 m de alto, construido de hormigón visto pigmentado con óxido de cobre y un segundo cuerpo superior de bloques de arcilla, donde se alternan perforaciones de distinto tamaño. Esta estratificación de materiales define una fachada clara, legible, y una imagen pública perdurable en el tiempo.
The museum and the city The project practically builds the full height of 12.6 m allowed by the building code in the entire site, devising the main elevation on the Manuel Antonio Matta Alameda as a continuous façade. Although today it is not yet consolidated on this block, it is considered essential that this state and public museum maintain the continuous façade and set the tone for future constructions. This will strengthen the quality of this traditional neighborhood of Copiapó and the relevance of the urban space of the Alameda Boulevard. The continuous façade is built upon two material strata. The first floor, a pedestal of 4.5 m high, is built of concrete pigmented with copper oxide, and a second upper body of clay blocks, with alternating different sized perforations. This stratification of materials defines a clear and readable façade, and a lasting public image in time.
