Aspecto central en el planteamiento del recinto, que permea su diseño a través de las distintas escalas, es la preocupación por el medio ambiente. Desde el sistema de riego de las canchas, el tratamiento de las aguas sanitarias mediante una planta especial que permite reutilizar el agua para el riego de las zonas de jardín, hasta los sistemas de producción de agua caliente, protección solar y ventilación del edificio. Un elemento arquitectónico que recoge esta preocupación y a la vez se transforma en uno de los temas centrales del edificio son las lucarnas: por una parte iluminan y ventilan los camarines, convirtiéndolos también en estares; simultáneamente se convierten en soporte para los paneles solares responsables de proveer más del 60% de la energía necesaria para el calentamiento del agua del club.
A main issue involving all design scales of the Sports City is the concern for the environment: the watering systems for the fields, sewage treatment (by means of a special facility that allows reuse in watering garden areas), hot water production systems, solar protection and building ventilation. An architectural element that reflects this concern and at the same time is one of the central features of the building is the series of skylights. On one hand they illuminate and ventilate the locker rooms, transforming them into lounges. At the same time they become support for the solar panels responsible for providing more than 60% of the energy necessary for the water heating of the club.
