Iluminación El Manquehue, cerro tutelar del Santiago siglo XXI, se recorta majestuoso en el cielo. Su silueta en el crepúsculo evoca el cáliz tapado por la hijuela, el paño blanco con que se le cubre durante los oficios religiosos. La evocación de la naturaleza alcanza aquí el relieve de un lugar sagrado. La luz está incorporada siempre en el hormigón. En la rampa de acceso, nueve pinceladas de luz encienden el suelo mientras que más arriba una diagonal de luz la acompaña en todo el transcurso. Toda la geometría de esta obra arquitectónica está basada en el número nueve. En el círculo de hormigón superior aparecen nueve llamas de luz que surgen de rasgos que dejó la moldura del hormigón y que en la noche se encienden como fuego divino. Lo mismo el magnolio central y sus flores de 9 pétalos. Los arcanos del número 9 simbolizan en muchas culturas el número maestro, que habla de un nuevo comienzo, del origen de un nuevo ciclo de vida. Pero no se ha buscado aquí ese simbolismo, al menos no de modo voluntario (aunque sí existe tras ellos el inicio de un nuevo ciclo de vida). La presencia del nueve se explica porque este oratorio en homenaje a la Virgen se hizo también para recordar a nueve alumnas de un colegio católico de Santiago muertas trágicamente, y de quienes, sus familias, profesores y amigos han querido dejar memoria en un lugar consagrado, sin nombrarlas.
Lighting Manquehue hill, the 21st century Santiago tutelary mountain, stands out majestically in the sky. Its silhouette at sunset evokes the pall, the white cloth that covers the chalice during religious services. The evocation of nature reaches here the status of a sacred place. Light is always embedded in concrete. On the access ramp, nine strokes of light illuminate the floor while above a diagonal follows throughout the course. All the geometry of this architectural work is based on the number nine. In the upper circle of concrete nine flames of light rise from openings left by the concrete formwork and are lit at night as a divine fire, and the central magnolia with its flowers of nine petals. The arcanes of the number 9 symbolize in many cultures the master number, which speaks of a new beginning, the origin of a new cycle of life. But this symbolism has not been used here, at least not voluntarily (although behind some of the symbols the start of a new cycle of life is present). The presence of the number nine is explained because this chapel in honor of the Virgin is also a reminder of nine students from a Catholic school in Santiago who died tragically, and to whom their families, teachers and friends have wanted to memorialize in a consecrated place without naming them.
