Bahía Azul Garden, Fourth Region

The volume of the house in its overall context behaves as another rock, with lush shrubbery protected from saline winds attached to it and exotic vegetation similar in texture and form to the local native species. On the side facing the ocean a variety of succulents, bromeliads and native cacti slide down the slopes and the cliff to blend in with the existing natural species, as it naturally occurs in the relationship between rocks and plants. Although the garden is designed to integrate into the landscape as a unit, the areas that are directly related to the architecture of the house and those that relate to the landscape are clearly defined. Both will be connected by roads, trails or steps, achieving through bends or breaks the continuity of the vegetation from the architecture to infinity. Off the main entrance the first patio appears along with an upward path overlooking a hillside of native vegetation and rocks; a second court is shaped by means of the volume for parking, the stairway and the garden leading into the house; a low wall serves as a lookout and rest area between trees and vegetation. From this platform a three story climb is divided in sections, ending in a final courtyard before entering the house. From the interior, due to the height and transparency the encounter with the sea is produced in all its magnitude. This visual connection is produced in all rooms through large windows selecting the most relevant views. An intermediate space between the interior and exterior allows for a progressive encounter with the garden and the landscape. The plant groupings evoke one of the rocky islets that can be seen from the garden. The circular shape of the pool and the color of the water are related to the pools that form between the rocks. The idea is that it reads like a “sea eye” in the complex.
