Valdivia necesita reforzar sus elementos urbanos para consolidar su tejido histórico. La intervención en el borde río, patrimonio paisajístico y emblema de la ciudad, lo transforma en uno de los principales elementos estructurantes, que junto a restaurar los lazos perdidos entre ciudad y paisaje, ciudad y agua, promueve una nueva forma de habitar el espacio público, lleno de actividad y remansos, que va de la mano a una conciencia acerca de la sostenibilidad, acorde con la visión local de crecimiento que la ciudad busca. La propuesta re-construye el borde del río mediante un espesor habitable de borde agua que integra los elementos particulares de Valdivia –medio natural, patrimonio, escala humana caminable–, a través de un soporte urbano cuyo objetivo es otorgar un espacio que se convierte en nuevo centro de actividad, desarrollo económico y turístico. La mezcla adecuada de programas (usos) logra que la ciudad se acerque al río, transformando la zona en la nueva costanera-parque de la ciudad de referencia internacional. La propuesta recupera la memoria y revive el anhelo de convertir a la costanera en la vía neurálgica. Valdivia needs to strengthen its urban elements to consolidate its historic fabric. The intervention in the riverfront –a heritage landscape and symbol of the city– transforms it into one of the main structural elements which, besides restoring the missing links between city and landscape, city and water, promotes a new way of inhabiting public space, full of activity and resting areas, which goes hand in hand with an awareness of sustainability, following the local vision of growth the city is seeking. The proposal re-builds the river's shore by means of an inhabitable thickness at the water’s edge integrating the particular elements of Valdivia –natural environment, heritage, and walkable human scale– through an urban frame whose objective is to provide a space that becomes a new center of activity, as well as for economic and tour development. The right mix of programs (uses) enables the city to approach the river, transforming the area into the new waterfront promenade, a city park of international renown. The proposal recovers the memory and revives the desire to turn the coastal promenade into the neuralgic roadway.
