Los estudios de Arquitectura de Matta en la Universidad Católica de Chile durante los años 30 significarían no sólo el inicio de una formación temprana vinculada a los círculos artísticos nacionales, también darán paso a una compleja estructura de relaciones que tendrán su expresión más lograda en la pintura. Con el tiempo Matta volverá de manera reiterativa a mirar hacia atrás, teniendo como referente su propio proyecto de título. El principal aporte de Matta hacia la arquitectura sin duda está en la construcción de un plano filosófico desde donde situar la arquitectura y una mirada crítica respecto a la disciplina. The architecture studies Matta enrolled in at Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC) in the 30s not only represent the beginning of an early education linked to the nation’s art circles but also will give rise to a complex structure of relations that will have its most successful expression in painting. Over time Matta will persistently look back to these years, in different stages of his life, considering his degree project as a benchmark. The main contribution Matta made to architecture is without a doubt the construction of a philosophical platform from which to conceive architecture as well as a critical view of the discipline.
