El proyecto abarca la rehabilitación del edificio Estación Puerto en la esquina de Avda. Errázuriz y Plaza Sotomayor junto a la construcción de un nuevo edificio adyacente, enfrentando Avda. Errázuriz. Debido a que el proyecto se encuentra en una zona declarada de Interés Histórico, el proyecto necesitó, además de la aprobación por parte de la Dirección de Obras de la Municipalidad, de la aprobación del Consejo de Monumentos Nacionales. Entre las preocupaciones del Consejo estaban el definir una altura máxima de edificación, de manera de mantener ininterrumpida la vista desde los miradores en los cerros. En su aprobación del año 2004 el Consejo indicó que "proyectos de este tipo son un aporte a la revitalización de los sectores bajo protección oficial de la Ley N°17.288 de Monumentos Nacionales, especialmente en este caso, donde se armoniza una arquitectura de valor patrimonial (edificio Estación Puerto) con una arquitectura contemporánea, dándole de esta forma vida y uso en pleno centro histórico de la ciudad. Ejemplos de este tipo marcarán una importante pauta a futuro, lo cual toma una connotación de carácter internacional, dada la calidad definida en esa área urbana como sitio de Patrimonio Mundial de la Unesco" .
The project involves the rehabilitation of the Puerto (port) Station building at the corner of Avenida Errázuriz and Plaza Sotomayor and the construction of a new adjacent building facing Avenida Errázuriz. Since the project is in an area defined as of historical interest, in addition to the approval of the building works department of the city the project needed the approval of the National Monuments Council. Among the concerns of the Council was to define a maximum building height in order to maintain uninterrupted views from the viewpoints on the hills. In its approval certification in 2004 the Council stated that "these projects are a contribution to the revitalization of the areas under the official protection of the Law of National Monuments N°17.288, especially in this case, in which an architectural heritage building (Puerto Station building) is harmonized with contemporary architecture, therefore instilling life and new uses into the historic center of the city. Examples of this type will mark an important guideline for the future, with an international connotation, given the definition of this urban area as a World Heritage Site by Unesco."
