Su nombre estuvo entre los candidatos oficiales al Pritzker 2013, y aunque finalmente lo ganó Toyo Ito, el sólo hecho de haber sido postulado muestra lo sólido del prestigio que goza el argentino César Pelli. Un prestigio que atraviesa el mundo y también la actividad arquitectónica, ya que además de encabezar una oficina global y firmar contundentes y representativos proyectos en muchas grandes ciudades, Pelli ejerce activamente la docencia hasta el día de hoy, cuando se acerca a los 90 años. Si a eso se suman los más de 100 reconocimientos que luce su carrera, tanto para su oficina como individuales, es indudable que es de los latinoamericanos más influyentes e importantes de la arquitectura actual. Egresado de la Universidad de Tucumán en 1950, desde 1952 vive en Estados Unidos, donde recién a fines de los 70, y ya con 50 años, formó su propio estudio -Pelli Clarke Pelli- casi obligado por las circunstancias: acababa de trasladarse de ciudad para asumir el decanato de Arquitectura en la Universidad de Yale cuando supo que había ganado una importante propuesta, lo cual le exigía una organización a la altura. Desde New Haven, con los años empezaron a llegar los encargos internacionales hasta consolidarse definitivamente a nivel mundial con las célebres Torres Petronas de Kuala Lumpur, en 1997, que por algunos años fueron los rascacielos más altos del mundo entero.
His name was among the official candidates for the 2013 Pritzker prize , and although it was finally won by Toyo Ito, the mere fact of having been nominated shows César Pelli’s solid prestige. A standing that covers the world and also reflects an architectural practice, because as well as leading a global office and signing compelling and representative projects in many large cities, Pelli is actively involved in teaching to this day, as he approaches 90 years of age. If to this we add the more than 100 career awards, both individual and to his office, he is undoubtedly considered one of the most influential and important Latin Americans in the field of current architecture. Graduated from the University of Tucumán in 1950, he has lived in the US since 1952. Only in the late 70s, already 50 years old, he formed his own studio - Pelli Clarke Pelli - almost forced by the circumstances: he had just changed cities to take on the position of dean of Architecture at Yale University when he learned he had won an important bid which required him to form an qualified team for the challenge. In time, international commissions started to come to New Haven and to finally consolidate on a global scale with the famous Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur in 1988, which for some years stood as the tallest skyscrapers in the world.
