Recuperación y puesta en valor Monumento Histórico Palacio Pereira Historic Landmark Recovery and Enhancement Of The Pereira Palace
La Dirección de Bibliotecas, Archivos y Museos (Dibam) convocó a un concurso público internacional para definir el mejor anteproyecto de arquitectura para la restauración del Palacio Pereira, céntrica mansión neoclásica del siglo XIX. De esta forma se rescatará una importante pieza del patrimonio arquitectónico chileno. The Directorate of Libraries, Archives and Museums (Dibam) convened an open international competition to determine the best architecture draft project for the restoration of Pereira Palace, a nineteenth century neoclassical mansion in downtown Santiago. This will constitute the recovery of an important piece of Chilean architectural heritage.
La restauración del este emblemático monumento histórico, que albergará las oficinas centrales de la Dibam, del Consejo de Monumentos Nacionales y de la institucionalidad patrimonial cultural de Chile, es parte del Programa Legado Bicentenario, iniciativa del Gobierno del Presidente Sebastián Piñera que busca rescatar espacios públicos con historia, con gran valor simbólico y vinculados a la identidad nacional. Ubicado en calle Huérfanos 1515, el Palacio Pereira fue construido como residencia unifamiliar en 1874 por el arquitecto francés Lucien Ambroise Henault, y cuenta actualmente con 1.799 m². El jurado del concurso estuvo conformado por el arquitecto español Rafael Moneo, ganador del Premio Príncipe de Asturias de las Artes 2012; el Premio Nacional de Arquitectura Víctor Gubbins y el presidente del Colegio de Arquitectos, Luis Eduardo Bresciani, entre otros. El proyecto a desarrollar contempla dos fases simultáneas: la restauración del edificio patrimonial y una nueva obra que deben complementarse como una unidad arquitectónica, alcanzando una superficie total de aproximadamente 5.700 m².
The restoration of this iconic historical landmark, which will house the offices of Dibam, of the National Monuments Council headquarters and of the cultural heritage institutions of Chile, is part of the Bicentennial Legacy Program, an initiative of the Government of President Sebastián Piñera that seeks to rescue public spaces with history, of great symbolic value and linked to national identity. Located on 1515 Huérfanos Street, the Pereira Palace was built as single-family residence in 1874 by French architect Lucien Ambroise Henault, with a current area of 1,799 m². The jury of the competition was composed by Spanish architect Rafael Moneo, winner of the Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts 2012; National Architecture Prize Victor Gubbins and the President of the College of Architects, Luis Eduardo Bresciani, among others. The project to develop involves two simultaneous phases: the restoration of the heritage building and a new piece, to complement each other as an architectural unit reaching a total area of approximately 5,700 m².

El modo en el que estos dos conceptos se articulan en la intervención resulta crucial para inyectarle vida al edificio, envolviendo, protegiendo e incorporando su condición de ruina. The Pereira Palace Competition provides a starting point from which to attempt reconciliation between two potentially conflicting positions: conservation and renovation. The way in which these two concepts are articulated in the intervention is crucial to inject life into the building, wrapping, protecting and incorporating its condition as a ruin.
